Jag2 - one of the top American runners, who was using this as a stepping stone to the Olympics, dropped about 5 miles into the race and died. He was only 28.
They still haven't said why, have they DG?

I haven't heard anything about it after the initial report either.
Shay I think was his last name. His wife is a runner too. It is very sad.

It reminds me of when Sergei Grinkov (ice skater) dropped of a heart attack. He was also 28, I believe. These seemingly incredibly healthy athletes.
Makes me wonder how I survive. I'm probably pickled at this point, though
Well, they say the Queen Mum drank a fifth of gin a day. She was almost 102 when she died...
From Newsday:
"The city medical examiner will determine the official cause of death in an autopsy scheduled for today.
Shay had been diagnosed with an enlarged heart but cleared by doctors, his father, Joe Shay, told The Associated Press."

In the first week of September we had four teenagers drop dead in six days of heart attacks here, and we've had more since, just not in such big numbers. It's a bug problem. We lost a few leading sports people in the last few years too.
Call it fitness gone mad.
From the same article:
"A year ago, doctors at the U.S. Olympic training center in California diagnosed Shay with an adrenal disorder that has been associated with over-training."

I rest my case.
A bug problem, Linnie? As in virus? Or typo?
