Perhaps this might seem ignorant of me, which is the last thing I wish to be, but it seems that all the universities offering a BFA in Musical Theatre cost a hefty sum of money. Or at least the well-established universities offering the degree are expensive, I'm not so sure about the lesser known schools. So, my question is: Is it entirely impossible to find a school offering a BFA in Musical Theatre that is not very expensive but still has an excellent program?

It's not impossible! Are there good schools in your home state? There are some state schools with good musical theatre programs. Not all BFA MT programs are in private schools. Also, you may qualify for academic or financial scholarships. You could even get a BFA in acting and take voice and dance outside of your classes. Some of the greatest Broadway musical stars have BFA's in acting. My daughter is a senior in high school and she is looking at a BFA in acting or musical theatre. There are advantages/disadvantages for each- you just gotta know your strengths. Good luck!

It's not impossible. Spend some time on the theatre forums at College Confidential. It's the best online resource available for college admissions for theatre programs.
