God DAMN my parents for not getting a dog.
Awww if it makes you feel any better Em I'm allergic to cats.. I wasn't when I was younger and we had cats forever.. It's only been in my adult life that this has come about.. Oh and I have violent reactions to bandaids regardless of the type.. how bizarre is that?
I'm so hideously allergic to cats. I went to a friend's house for dinner, and several years earlier, the previous owner owned a couple of cats, and I didn't realize this until after my eyes watered and I broke into hives.
I'm glad I'm not allergic to animals... I'm too much of a animal lover for that t hapen LOL The only one that gives me any problems is my Jersye Wooly rabbit, Mr. Frodo... but I think that's because this time of year he sheds like CRAZY.
When I was young and learned that I had allergies to cats and dogs, it made me afraid of them because I thought something terrible would happen to me. I loved them from afar, but wouldn't go near them. I've always been an animal person, but never had pets, save for fish. I decided in middle school that I was just going to deal with it. I started doing a lot of animal work then, and it's actually gotten better as I've built up immunity. I can't LIVE with them, but I can be around them with almost no problem.

I'm actually allergic to cats as well. Emcee, I feel like I kind of know what cam is feeling. Obviously, when you eat something you can't, your reactions are very severe. Mine, however, are not that severe and I will not die or even have to go to the hospital. So I potentially could consciously eat something that I can't have and be "hurting myself" but not in the way that you would. Maybe I'm completely off though. BTW, I will only ever maybe eat something I am allergic to if the thing is one of the last ingredients. I am allergic to any wheat products, so I would never eat an Oreo or something.
Wheat allergies are funny. Like, technically I have a VERY mild wheat allergy that apparently manifests itself as a seasonal, environmental allergy rather than a food allergy.
What'll happen to you if you eat something you shouldn't? I mean, cam says she gets 'violently ill.' That doesn't sound like something I'd risk, personally.

Yeah I wouldn't want to try that. Basically, its a horrendous stomach ache. And all the things that come with that... Which, although not being sent to the hospital not being able to breathe, is not a light thing. Also, it destroys the vili in your small intestine, if you know what that is. Mine is not really an allergy. It is called "Celiac disease". But it's not a disease either... I don't know. I think it's called an intolerance. But it is constant and, unfortunately, I can't grow out of it.
I'm also soooo allergic to cats, it's not even funny. i break out into hives, then there's the sneezing and the coughing. it's so sad because cats are sooo CUTE!
anyways, my friend, Marissa, loves to cook, especially Italian foods but then a couple of months ago she developed an allergic reaction to tomatoes and now she cannot eat anything with tomatoes in it. that stinks. i dunno how that happened, though, and she doesn't know how either.

I think some allergies develop b/c your body has a sensitivity to a specific food already and after several exposures, just becomes saturated===>allergic reaction. There's a lot more to it (different Igs), but it has been too long since I studied Immunology!
