Is the word "dufus" or "doofus"?

Is there any "official" spelling? I've always wondered; seems I see it both ways. Thoughts? Opinions? Definitive answers? I'd just like to know whether I'm a dufus or a doofus.

I don't know, I guess I'm in the minorty, but I always thought it was 'dufus'!

Oh well....

Just a side note, do you all know what 'doofus' or 'dufus' means? re: Is the word 'dufus' or 'doofus'?

The word is 'doofus' and it is thought that it may have originated with a blended Scottish word for fool (doof) and the word goof for a mistake.

Dufus is also recognized in most slang dictionaries. So you can have it both ways if you'd like.

Personally I prefer the more descriptive 'dimwit' or 'nincompoop'

I'm in the minority with MLE. I always thought it was dufus.
