Law and Order tonight ended with Elizabeth Rohm being dismissed from her job and when she was she asked "Is this because I'm a lesbian?".
I watch this show all the time......How did I miss this?!
I'm with you. I had no idea! I need to start watching Law and Order again.
THANK YOU!!!!!
My reaction was, "what?!"
This was a total red herring. They have revealed very little about her personal life and I don't think they've EVER implied or showed anything about her being a lesbian. Just a little strange to kind of TOSS that in there in Rohm's last show!

I thought it was a weird ending

Did NOT see that one coming!
So she wasn't joking? Or she was? I'm confused.

"'Is this because I'm a lesbian?' - llaw and order tonight"

I don't think she was joking, but it really took me by surprise. Does anyone think this is an issue they might be planning to pursue in the new L&O Trial by Jury?
I doubt it. They really try not to bring storylines from one L&O to another. Plus Ms. Rohnm is not even going to be a part of the new L&O series so why would they leave something up in the air like that? However, I AM interested to see her in the next Miss Congeniality film. I didn't hear anything about her leaving the show though, anyone know how or why this came about?
She'd been planning on leaving the show from the beginning of the season. Usually the girls in that part (and apparently one guy) leave after two or three seasons. It could be because the critics didn't like her at all.
However, I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING! What the h@#%! No relevance to anything whatsoever.
that was weird. I was like what just happened!!!

She left Law & Order!? There are no words to express my glee. I haven't watched primetime L&O a long time ago, though - I always forget. What a twist at the end, though. I'll have to catch it in reruns.
(What led up to her character being dismissed in the first place?)
actually she wanted to leave before the season started but agreed to stay on for part of this season so they would not have to swap out two players at once with jerry orbach leaving. it's entirely possible that they wanted to leave it open for her to come back and guest star down the road as a gay rights activist lawyer going up against jack and arthur and her replacement on some case. if her big screen career doesn't pan out that is. they did it for cary lowell after she left and i think jill hennesy came back once or twice too before she got crossing jordan .
I thought it was great, especially since I TOTALLY DID NOT SEE IT COMING.
Screw critics, what the hell do they know anyway? I try to never base my opinions on critics.
::sigh:: So now, if I were in L&O land, I'd officially have a chance with the two characters I think are gorgeous, first it was Ben Bratt and now Elizabeth Rohm.
I wasn't too fond of her either. At least though she's not stereotypical. It's great that nobody's saying stuff like "the flannel shirts should've tipped me off"
i think L&O does cross over some...i mean, Orbach and Martin have been on SVU many many times.
i was divided on Rohm. Remember the horrible season they kept giving her glam makeovers and she looked like a coke whore? i think she is very attractive, and can act, but her writing was very inconsistent. At least Jack's character didn't sleep with her.
She may show up other places in the franchises. i also think it's about time for another flavor besides vanilla and chocolate gets a recurring role...that is tasty BD Wong over on SVU, so how about some Latin spice? that would be the NYC i know and love...
ok, this is probably way too telling that i remmeber this discussion and couldn't wait until tonight's law & order repeat was over to come post about it. if you rad this thread, a lot of folks were shocked by ada serena southerlyn's firing and the comment, "is this because i'm a lesbian?" at the time i was as shocked as anyone, but i admit i had not been watching this season that closely. well tonight i saw the writing on the wall after the fact.
tonight's repeat on nyc's channel 4 at 8pm was entitled "gove love" and dealt with a fictional governor of connecticut whose wife was murdered by a guy who held several fat gov't contracts. he also had a male lover who it seems was shared by the seemingly straight hubby of the deceased. in the course of the trial, serena became almost an advocate of the defense at one point refusing to even assist in the case. now granted, the only way they were able to get a conviction was to have the ny supreme court declare all of the new paltz same sex marriages null and void, so it was very dirty pool. however, she very clearly after being warned repeatedly by ada mccoy, allowed her personal feelings in the matter to influence her ability to perform her job.
this was not one of the more subtle episodes. voicing an opinion is one thing, but refusing, in front of the da, to do her job, seems like a fireable offense.
i know, i'm way too obsessive about this...
Nah...everybody just hates lesbians.
Actually, its funny you should write about this. I don't want L/O very often but my mother does so I see it many times by default. I actually read, I guess it was about 2 weeks ago, in Entertainment Weekly about that "Is it because I'm a lesbian?" comment. It was a little blurb saying that the actress felt her character was a lesbian from the very beginning but that it was not something that had ever been pursued in the show because it really wasn't a big issue. It was, however, meant to be a serious question when asked in her last episode.
When my mother and I first saw this, our mouths opened up, for we couldn't understand. Not only was that completely unexpected, but the acting was just dreadful.
I still like Stephanie March from SVU, and am quite upset she left.
Littlefish, I agree. So far I don't think any of the ADAs have matched up to Stephanie March's talent or beauty. She's my ADA idol!
