My little gerbil friend died last night. I knew it was coming since she's been slowing down and was listless and not eating much the last few days. Her litter mate had died over the Xmas holidays.
Sometimes losing the little ones is harder because often by the time you recognize something is wrong with them it's too late to do anything for them and not much can really be done anyway.

Awww, Yawper, that is awful. 
I know how you feel about how 'losing the little ones' is hardest sometimes. I had two frogs that literally died of scurvy, of all things-- and it upset me a lot more than it should have.
