I’ve decided it’s time to do something I’ve been waiting years to do – immerse myself in the Potter world completely! Every time a new book was about to come out, I’d re-read the previous volume, just to ‘get on track’. But, since I view this as one complete work, I always knew that SOMEDAY I’d ‘begin at the very beginning’ and go all the way through. And that someday is today!
I’m also going to augment with two other things. I’m going to begin with her address to the Harvard graduates this year, which she titled “The Fringe Benefits of Failure.” – just to get myself a little bit in her head-space.
The other thing is the bit I’ve been able to find of “The Tales of Beedle the Bard” (which are mostly summaries of some of the fairy tales). I’ll read through that when I get to that part in “Deathly Hallows”.
SO, off I go into the fantastical world of Ms. Rowling’s creation – I’m very excited to take this little ‘trip’!
Have fun!!! I know that I will be doing this too, it's just a matter of when I get the inspiration to start. Your thread is pushing me in the right direction.
if you have any revelations during the reading of things you didnt' see before, let us know!
"I'm an American, Damnit!!! And if it's three things I don't believe in, it's quitting and math."
Ooh, me too! I just finished 'Philosopher's Stone' for the first time in ages. Just six more to go! Still not sure if I want to watch the existing films as I go, or afterwards, or not at all. I haven't seen the first two since they came out...
It's an 800 word "prequel" of sorts to Harry Potter that Jo wrote and auctioned off for charity. It gives some fun insights into the characters of James and Sirius and is a great way to begin re-reading all of the books.

"Shut up! It's been 29 years!!!" --the incomparable Patti LuPone in her MUCH DESERVED Tony acceptance speech for Gypsy.

I re-read the first six in preparation for book seven last year. It was an amazing journey!

For to be hopeless would seem so strange.
It dishonors those who go before us,
So lift me up to the light of change."

Jerby, you like this better than the one about Justin Caster?!?

Hey DG! Great Idea...I had planned to do that this summer but then this tantalizing job came along and there is just no possible way I would be able to immerse myself! And then keep drilling into me -- if we win all the marbles -- the *real* work will only become more demanding after Election Day!
Although we are holding out some glimmer of hope that we at least one day off to sleep on the 5th!
"I'm a one-eyed Mormon Democrat from conservative Arizona, and you can't have a higher handicap than that."
~The ever-great and fabulous Morris K. Udall.
DG, I've been thinking about doing this myself. The other day I was looking at all of the books on my shelf and remembering how much fun I had rereading all of the books in preparation for the 7th last summer. I read the Twilight books instead, but they just can't compare. Perhaps I will join you after all.
DG and Weez- I'm totally doing it now, and have just started "Chamber of Secrets."
The weirdest was when I opened it, a hall pass from 9-11-01 fell out...which was the last time I probably read the book...at the start of my sophomore year of High School.
