I can hear the Republicans now, "Crazy Hollywood Stars and their crazy ideas!"

Jack has always been cool in my opinion, but this just shows how ahead of the times he is. Still a good idea 30 years later!

It was crazy Hollywood star Republican Ronald Reagan who killed alternative energy projects back then. One of his first acts in the White House was to have removed the solar panels Carter had installed there.

Yes, and why don't we have these cars today? Perhaps because the large motor companies bought the patents and sat on them.

Jack Nicholson actually was driving a classic Rolls Royce at that time. I think it was a 1926 or 1927 Phantom. (However, being 1 year old at the time, I don't have any personal recollection of it. )

"Yes, and why don't we have these cars today? Perhaps because the large motor companies bought the patents and sat on them."

Why do so many people believe the auto companies would sit on technology that would work and sell at a reasonable price? that thinking is purely ignorant.

Hydrogen and electric car technology have yet to be refined to the point they are practical for the market and for the mass production that will allow them to become more price competitive.

Hopefully GM's Volt will be the first, but I'm really afraid the public's high expectations for that car are going to sink it in the marketplace.

The level of ignorance about the auto industry in this country is frustrating, though it's a backhanded compliment to Detroit's engineers that most people don't realize its complexity.

well, "Yawper", there is an answer to this. motor companies hold potentially billions of dollars in unused patents. with the hydrogen car it has to do with the cost of building the infrastructure compared to gasoline where the infrastructure is already in place and it's comparing which system would ultimately be more profitable.

we could have had a discussion about this but I will not accept your insults

yeah, yeah, yeah

but more importantly, doesn't anyone want to know WHY and HOW I have Jack's email?

Is that a lead-in line or what? OK, do please tell.

You can PM me with the address so I can verify its accuracy re: Jack Nicholsons Hydrogen Car (1978)

"with the hydrogen car it has to do with the cost of building the infrastructure compared to gasoline where the infrastructure is already in place and it's comparing which system would ultimately be more profitable."

This is EXACTLY the problem created by the oil industry's domination of the nation's fuel delivery system. Some states in the Midwest have worked to expand ethanol distribution in order to accommodate an alternative fuel, but no one has yet done that for hydrogen or any other fuel. Why? Because outside of the Midwest no one thinks on a large scale beyond oil.

So you expect the automakers to build cars for which the public can't purchase fuel? Or do you expect the automakers to build the fuel delivery infrastructure, too (which is NOT their industry and isn't going to happen)?

well since you are all DYING to know:

I have this local movie star friend (and I use the term loosely, both "movie star" and "friend") and he's trying to get support for the charity he is lending his celeb status to support. Well, I've always said he is not the sharpest tool in the chandelier, nor the brightest bulb in the pencil box.

So he sends out this huge frikken' mass email (about supporting a bill before congress) to everyone in his email address book, forgetting to "blind carbon copy" the email.

so bunches of famous peeps are on there, politicians, movie moguls, caterers, etc. and Jack is one of them.

more importantly:

MARJOE AND HIS ASSISTANT ARE BOTH ON THERE

bbbbbwwwwwwaaaaaaahhhhhhaaaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaaaa

but for the life of me I can't figure what I can do with that knowledge

Chevstriss, I can imagine how heavily filtered their e-mail is after that, if they are even using the same addresses. Still, I have a suggestion for you. Send them all to me and I'll figure it out for you. re: Jack Nicholsons Hydrogen Car (1978)

Yawper , I for one am not a fan of ethanol. What they are doing to the corn crops is counter to the direction farming should be taking. They are relying heavily on synthetic chemical fertilizers, insecticides and herbicides which damage the soil. They are also trying to boost corn production by genetic modification. This can harm neighboring crops as well (wind drift of GMO pollens). I think there may be a better solution.

When cars had carburetor, a relatively simple modification could be made to convert a car to hydrogen. It is now a little more complex. In a small town if there was only one hydrogen station, that would be suitable for around-town driving. I live in a small town with a lot of electric cars and hybrids. The purely electric cars are used for in-town driving only. Most owners have another gasoline car for intercity/state driving. They exceptions are the hybrids which use both and can be used for both types of driving.

A friend of mine has ordered a car powered by air which will be delivered next year. I can't wait to "test drive" it. You will see those in America in a year or two.

This video tries to make air cars look like the solution to all the world's problems. Wishful thinking actually. But it does offer an alternative for certain types of driving.

but Krissy, I'm like the only "commoner" on the list - so I don't think the other celebs/senators would be spamming each other with OMG YOU'RE SO COOL emails, and since I didn't do it either, I'll bet no one was alarmed about it enough to change/filter the addresses.

It just makes me feel really warm knowing Marjoe's email, so just in case he ever DOES write me, I'll know it's not one of my friends pulling my leg.

That's pretty cool, Chevstriss , perhaps they are wondering who you are. And when you perform somewhere, they'll be thinking "where do I know that name from?, I'd better pay attention to this one." (if your name is in your e-mail that is, otherwise you'll have to adopt your e-mail address as your stage name!) .

yeah, they are wondering. I'll bet several members of the House of Representatives has lost sleep pondering my identity.

If so, at least they would be pondering something re: Jack Nicholsons Hydrogen Car (1978)
