Ok. Not a good subject for a musical (or is it?) or even a thread but , how would you do it (the musical)?
I guess it would be natural to let Marvin Hamlisch write the score because pardon the pun "nobody does it better", and he has a foot in both worlds so to speak.
Choreographing the car chase would be a totally new challenge for young aspiring choreographers, don't you think?

Well. Since James Bond movies are mostly impressive for their sequences of violence and explosions... I have the slight suspicion THAT would translate not quite as well to the stage, dontcha think?!
But I agree about Hamlish, should they one day make a film musical about Bond, then HE should do the score.

Thanks for the reply. The difficulty of translating it to the stage is the reason I thought it would be sort of interesting to discuss.
It's true that Bond is a lot about action scenes, and in a wider sense - gimmicks. Something which contemporary Broadway tries to avoid at any cost (or not?).
Bond is also about beautiful ladies. Something which Broadway also despise (or not)
Lastly it is about catchy melodies. Something which contemporary Broadway definetely does not like.
I think I would utilize some of the older Bond songs together with new music. "Nobody does it better" is a really beautiful song to have a lady sing on stage. It could be sung by M if played by a woman. It would work with a man too in a comic way but that would sort of waste a good song.
Obviously from a franchise holders point of view it would be a risky perhaps suicidal project. But the thread is about how one would do it if given the order to put it on stage.

"We saw enough car chases in Sunset Blvd".
How did they stage the car chases in Sunset Blvd?
Of course you could tone down or even emit car chases altogether. But if one had to stage one i think their are some alternatives.
1. you could show it on a film screen.
2. you could have some kind of car on stage together with a film screen.
3. you could use a real car that would drive onto the stage. Perhaps arriving/departing right through the middle of the audience (if Phantom has its specially built theater in vegas why not Bond?)
4. You could also have a theater with windows on one side where you could see an actual street which Bond would be driving on. He could also enter with his car trough an opening in the wall. Ok this alternative would perhaps destroy the "fourth wall" but that seems to be popular nowadays.

Perhaps Vegas would be the best venue for such a musical. Imagine "The James Bond experience". In the musical Bond would save the world in a poker game. Ok i know it sounds silly but imagine how much the tourists would spend in the casino royale afterwards?

I fear it would turn into something out of Universal Studies.
Though imagine a sexy samba...

Hey, Cyndi Lauper could work as M! When i think about it, it would perhaps suit Moneypenny better to sing "Nobody does it better", she has that kind of idolatrous affection for Bond. I was thinking that M could sing it after Bond have saved the world but i don't think it's in line with M:s character to sing that kind of praise to Bond even then.
