The location in the West Village is still open, but it's not as Disneyfied. It is the original location.

When I was there a year and a half ago, the waiter told me they were planning a huge underground attraction. It was supposed to open this year. I guess all that fell through.

Snafu... they did open their attraction. It was actually on the same floor as the restaurant. It was a walk-thru haunted 'house'. It was basically a pretty bare maze and a few actors jumped out. Wasn't all that great.
As for it closing...always sad to see a non-chain restaurant close. We have enough Olive Gardens, Red Lobsters, etc.
Although I actually enjoyed the restaurant it was primarily for the ambiance. It was a fun place to bring friends from out of town. Tourists loved it. Unfortunately, as a local I refused to go on my own because I hate paying a cover charge when I am buying food/drinks! Calling it an "entertainment fee" doesn't work for me. Also the food really wasn't all that good.
Sorry to see this Times Square location go especially when it was really built as a flagship location.

I went to the one of 6th between 57th and 58th a long time ago.
It was cute. I recall my bar stool sinking so slowly it was imperceptible.

The 6 th Avenue one was much better. Changing times and tastes plus competition did them in. Moving to Times Square may have sounded good but all it did was increase their rent and competition.
