Yahoo news reports that Jen C. of the Apprentice 2 was canned Thursday from her high-brow, New York real estate company because of anti-semetic (probably spelled wrong) remarks she made in the episode that aired Wednesday night.

Apparently, she stated on the show that she's part Jewish and is "From New York" and "Calls an Italian and Italian and a Jew a Jew" but apparently that footage ended up on the cutting room floor.
Has our society gotten so anti-free speech that anything you say or do can get you persecuted?
The First Amendment guarantees everyone the freedom of speech. It does not guarantee anyone the right to not be offended.
Thoughts?
i feel bad for her =(

If this is in fact true, I do not have any sympathy for her. She knew what she was getting into when she applied and accepted to appear on the Apprentice. Reality television is notorious for sneaky editing techniques to create more drama than actually occurred. After watching Omarosa on the first Apprentice, she saw how badly someone could be potrayed, regardless of whether it is accurate.

Rodney, did you see that episode? What she said was presumptuous and offensive. And any remarks edited didn't change the content of her original comments. I am curious how you feel she's being persecuted? In what way? How does free speech play into an employeer's right to continue employment? No one stifled her right to voice her opinions. She was free to make an ass of herself and she accomplished that, for all the world to see.
If I remember correctly her company had been very supportive of her appearence in this show and placed a full page ad offering her best wishes.
"The First Amendment guarantees everyone the freedom of speech. It does not guarantee anyone the right to not be offended."
Actually, you're wrong. Freedom of speech does not mean you can say anything without having to be responsible and accountable for your words. See definitions of Slander and Sexual Harassment.

And to expound further on what Craig is stating, your right to say what you want, where you want, and how you want is also limited by criminal law. That's what statues against Disorderly Conduct, Terrorist Threats, Harassment by Communications, and Ethnic Intimidation exist.
So there is no blanketed "right" to free speech.

Thanks for talking to me like I'm stupid. I appreciate it.
Once again I'm flamed on this board for expressing an opinon that is not a popular one.
My point is this: It's true you can't slander, harass, incite riot (yelling fire in a theater), etc.
What if Jen had been an African American and she called some white people "crackers"? People probably would've laughed, right? That probably woundn't have gotten her fired, right? But what's the difference between that and what happened? I ask you WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
I still think she's hot.

Rodney, you never answered my original question as to whether you had seen that episode?
And you can stop right now in your attempts to play the martyred victim. No one "flamed" you. No one talked to you as though you were stupid. And if you feel stupid...well no one has control over your feelings but you. You posted inflammatory comments and asked for thoughts. They were provided. Don't ask a question if you're not prepared to handle an answer. Any answer.
Then you imagine an scenario. You asked, "What is the difference?" How dare you assume there would be a difference in reactions. How dare you assume that people would laugh.
I did see this episode and what I saw (someone correct me if I'm wrong) was Jen talking about the "two old Jewish women". I didn't see anything wrong with her statement. Now, maybe that's because I'm Jewish and when I see two old Yentas, that's what they are. What I did see was Stacy's decision (a very wise one to play the game with) to make a mountain out of a molehill by saying she was offended.
We really do blow things way out of proportion WHENEVER anyone brings up race, religion etc. don't we? Flipping the channels last week I heard Monique say on her sitcom that "White people sure are crazy". Should her show be canceled?

Thank you, Matt_G.
etoile (is that pronounced eh-twalle?)
I did see the episode.
Craig DID talk to me like I'm stupid. I most likely fired back at him because I'm peesed at him for another reason.
and you know what? SO DID YOU with your "So there is no blanketed "right" to free speech. "
Like I didn't frickin know that.
You said earlier "What she said was presumptuous and offensive"
To who? You? Fine. Don't expect me (and everyone else) to be offended just beacause you are. THAT my friend is the problem with political correctness.

I find it interesting that NBC is not showing this past week's episode tonight. Possible legal problems regarding Jen C.?
i'm watching it right now....

Oh, silly me. It must've started later than I thought it would've.
I didn't find her remarks offensive. I'm with Matt_G, I think it was blown out of proportion. She did not mean to offend anyone when she referred to them as old Jewish ladies.

I agree with that too.

Ok first of all why the hell do I even watch this show on Thursday (or Wednesday in the case of this week) when Saturday is SO MUCH BETTER!?
I agree that Jen C. deserved to get canned because of performance in the task. I'm glad Stacey didn't bring up the "old jew" thing so Jen could get canned with that being part of it.
I still think she's really hot. Not many women can wear bright red lipstick like that and pull it off.
Speaking of things in that show that are offensive, why didn't anyone get their panties in a wad when Jen called Stacey "munchkin"?
Because making fun a short people, or should I say vertically challenged, is funny and therefore acceptable under the current laws of political correctness?
rodney, have you checked out her website?
