Jerry Goldsmith

A few weeks ago, I asked on the board about the health of the composer Jerry Goldsmith...
He died today, and I'm very very sad.
He was the first soundtrack composer that I discovered when I was 15 years old, when I thrilled with the soundtrack of Gremlins. After that I started to discover jewels like Boys from Brazil, Patton, and years later mulan, medicine man, rudy, the star trek movies...
And one day I discovered Russia House, one of my favourite cd's ever...
I was very lucky to meet him in 1999, when he came to Barcelona to direct a concert. I filmed the rehersals and made an interview to him, and I found on him a kind men, very funny and a lot of film history on his back.
If heaven exists, he will be there with other greats such as Alex North, Bernard Herrmann and Henry Mancini.

Thank you Jerry for all the good music you left to us!

Planet of apes is a very strange soundtrack! I like it in the movie, but the cd... is very hard to hear....
I want to insist to those who never have heard a soundtrack of him, to go to amazon (for example) and listen some clips of his works.

It's a great loss. I hope he and Bernard Herrmann, Alex North, Franz Waxman, Alfred Newman, Erich Korngold and Miklos Rozsa are having a blast, wherever they are.

Even though he had problems with the Ridley over the "Alien" score, its still one of his best. It's frightening and unnerving. One of my favorites of his.
He will be sadly missed.

What a true talent, his scores have transported me for years..

Damien-Omen II is one of my favorites ever, "Claws" from the soundtrack is brilliant!

God Speed him home....

He also wrote the theme to "The Waltons" as well. This man could write a score to just about anything.

Not to mention the percolating theme to Room 222.

Goldsmith wrote so many classic scores: Patton, Planet of the Apes, Papillon, Alien, among many others. But my all-time favorite is his masterpiece, Chinatown. He'll be sorely missed.

I forgot that this year we lost too Michael Kamen.
this is a sad year for those who loves film soundtracks.
Kamen did a great job in "robin hood", "iron giant", "what dreams may come" (i prefer much more his version than morricone's rejected score) and even in the metallica concert.

Mominator, it's not that Goldsmith could write themes to anything. Plenty of hacks (like Horner, for instance) can do that as well. it's that Goldsmith did it WELL. And therein lies the difference.

Horner had no new ideas... since... nattie gunn?
He's in a loop, making all the time the same music... braveheart-titanic-legends of the fall...
Bicentennial Man is like a "greatest hits compilation!"
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only soundtrack lover here.
Even we have a (good?) soundtrack composer around here! re: Jerry Goldsmith

This weekend has passed away another great film composer... Piero Piccioni. It's not popular as Goldsmith was, but it was a great film composer. I like very much his work on "Appassionata"
