Caught some of of Jessica in Kong's palm this morning.
Anyone seen the whole flick? What did you think?
Awful, but fantastic campy fun. Kind of lame that they put him ont the twin towers at the end instead of the Empire state though.
I'm in it! It's one of the worst films ever made, imo; and Lange is wretched in it.
It's the film that almost killed Lange's career before it even started. It is a hilarious film! When Kong bursts out of a giant gasoline pump, I nearly fell off my chair.
One of those movies that I remember loving as a kid, and being baffled that the adults around me didn't get. I must've seen it 10 times, I even had the poster in my room. I haven't seen it since, would be interesting...
DD, I was just going to post almost the exact same thing. I loved it as a kid but haven't seen it since. I too wonder what my opinion now would be.
I loved it as a kid, too, and caught in on TV for the first time in years when the Jackson film came out. It’s certainly not a great movie, but I don’t think it’s quite as bad as its reputation. Two things I did notice that I completely missed as a kid were how inconsistent Kong’s size is throughout the movie and how (intentionally) funny Jessica Lange’s performance is.
To be fair, NCGuy, Kong's size in the original film was inconsistent, as well.

In the poster, Kong is straddling the WTC towers. To do that, he would have to be about 200 feet tall - not 50 feet.

Maybe it's just me but how is a remake of a 1933 movie original?

The giant robot Kong at the end is the worst. It looks nothing like the man-in-a-suit Kong from the rest of the movie.
How Jessica Lange ever had a career after this film is beyond me!
I remember laughing out loud at her performance when it came out. I wasn't alone doing it, either.
The Kong effects were considered "wow!" at the time. It was an "event film." And now the whole ending at the World Trade Center has a whole new significance.
