When I was younger, I was addicted to the Olympic broadcasts - and Mr. McKay basically WAS those broadcasts for me. So many memories.

I'm with you, DG. Jim McKay made the Olympics seem more like a world-changing step toward international unity than a sports competition. He also added a warm, personal, sensitive voice to the event.

How poignant that he passed away on the day of the running of the Belmont Stakes - McKay was also the "voice of the Triple Crown" for 25 years. In his own right he was well known here in Maryland as a thoroughbred breeder and racer. He'll be sorely missed and I'll think of him as I cheer on Big Brown today.
Pax.

"McKay was also the "voice of the Triple Crown" for 25 years."
Is he the guy who always said, "And down the stretch they come!"??
