Well, I'm not sure you can watch The Libertine over and over again as it will put you in a pretty downbeat mood for a long time.
But holy s*** I loved this film. Did anyone else see it? John Malkovich was incredible too.
I'd really like to see this onstage now.

The play is actually quite interesting and was done by Steppenwolf in Chicago. There was talk abouta B'way transfer but Malkovitch decided against it and he was playing the Earl then so Martha Plimpton never got the chance to be nominated for a Tony. The film freq shows it's stage roots and not in a good way. Still, some wonderful monologues, for Depp & Malkovich which was, I suppose the whole purpose of the venture.
Yes the Earl's speech to Parliment is wonderful!

Wow...The Libertine didn't even crack the top 10. That's just sad considering what's number one...

Is the Sweeney movie even happening? Or is that just a rumor...
Personally, I'd rather see Depp continue to do bizarre art films like THE LIBERTINE

I thought Burton was working on a Robert Ripley biopic...?
Can Depp even sing?

You know who else I can see playing opposite Depp? Helena Bonham Carter. Don't know if she can sing though. I'm convinced Depp can do anything.

I saw it last fall and while I found the opening monologue and Johnny's scenes with Samantha Morton very compelling, I thought it would never end in the last 20 mins. I think at one point there was a fade or cut to black and the whole audience started rustling thinking it was over and it just kept going another 10 mins or so. I think we all wanted it to end finally.
I found it more intriguing in the first hour, but then started going downhill with occasional piques of interest.
Hated the cinematography, too.

Yes that's how I felt too. But I, personally, loved the cinematog. Very atmospheric and creepy.
I find cloudy, gray, bleak skies oddly beautiful.
