Jon Stewart Back tonight for 3 weeks and he's gone

Comedy Central's Daily Show is back tonight with new shows. I am really going to miss Jon Stewart's intelligence, comedic skills and genuine talent as a performer and producer.

These are supposedly the last 3 weeks or so. I'd think he doesn't want a lot of hoopla but I sure hope he gets it. I wish I could get to NYC but tickets are probably all gone. Let's laugh while we can!

Oh gosh, yeah. Those Steven vs. Steven segments always killed.

I've been watching the Daily Show almost every night for at least ten years now (watched off and on before that). I'm definitely going to miss Jon when he's done. I hope Trevor Noah is good.

At least we still get John Oliver once a week...

President Obama was back in NY for today. He's on the Daily Show w/Jon tonight...

I suppose at this stage he's earned the right to it, but taking so much time out of an interview with Obama to talk about his relationship with "the media" felt a bit self-indulgent and a bit lazy. Would have liked to have seen him perhaps challenge POTUS a bit more - say, on how (relatively) soft his administration - especially Eric Holder's Justice Dept - has gone on Wall Street. Then again, as much as I admire Stewart and have enjoyed his work on The Daily Show, I kinda feel that way about the show in general. Way too much time focusing on cable news and media, which is like shooting fish in a barrell.

That familiar set up:

followed by

[STEWART FACE PALM AND WONDERFULLY POINTED JOKE]

has served them well.

But I also think it's partly why Oliver has eclipsed Stewart as must-see tv. Acknowledging, of course, that producing a weekly show is not the same thing as producing a daily program and that without Stewart's leadership at the The Daily Show we wouldn't have Oliver's program.

SNAFU - all fair points except for the last one. Stewart always says he's "just" a comedian or a satirist and usually couples it with some self-deprecating joke, but he is clearly a fiercely intellectual and politically engaged man and I don't believe he's remotely naive about what a large role he and his show have had in political discourse over the past decade+. And, hey, there are plenty of interviews in his past that have been very pointed - see his recent interview with disgraced NY Times reporter Judith Miller or, you know, any past Bush Administration official. I'm not suggesting that he be disrespectful when interviewing the President, or that he not acknowledge the many fine achievements of Obama's administration, but I do think he could have challenged POTUS bit more and, frankly, held his feet to the fire a bit more on some crucial topics. I get it - even for a man of Stewart's stature - it's probably difficult not to be deferential to a sitting president as he, yes, sits just inches from you - I just think that final interview could have been a bit more substantive.
