Today is going to be a very sad day for my family and I. Our cat of over 12 years died last night. He has been sick lately. Last night he tried to jump from our table to the counter...and did not make it. So, I think he hurt his back (plus he had liver problems). Last night he just got worse and worse and this morning my mom found him stretched out in our bathroom. He must have crawled in there. Poor guy. I am very sad today. Just thought I would share (my first pet death). Journey to the Heavyside Layer

Sorry about that, bud. Pet deaths are hard.

My heartfelt condolences. Cats are human beings in fur clothing.

That is so sad. But at least you will have your MEMORIES...

PEACE.

Hugging you cyber-ly. Namo is right -- pet deaths ARE hard. And be comforted -- apparently he was loved, and he felt it. :)

I had to, unexpectedly...well, unexpectedly on that particular day, at least (a more rational person might have seen the writing on the wall)...put my last remaining cat of three that I'd had for a decade to sleep on a Saturday last September. I feel for you because it IS a huge loss. My daughter and I held Dewey while they gave her the injection, so even though we felt like total betrayers, she died feeling loved. It was to be the first time in 30 years that I was without a pet and it felt abnormal and awful.

Just to show you that you never know what a day will bring when you wake up in the morning, on our way out of the vet's, one of the techs mentioned that they had six motherless kittens in the back who were going to be shipped out to the local shelter. Neither of us were in an emotional position to look at six needy kittens and reject any of them, so we just said, "Bring us two." I felt a little ambivalent about walking IN with Dewey and walking OUT with two tiny (4 weeks old)kittens....but what the hey...they needed a home. And thus, Persephone and Orpheus came into our household. (A couple of days later, one of my husband's coworkers adopted two more from the litter, and someone who works at the vet's took the remaining two home. A happy ending for the whole group.)

Anyway, I'm sorry about your cat.

I'm sorry to hear it. It's especially difficult with a pet you've had so long. I had a dog for 21 years and her death was traumatic for the entire family.

I'm so sorry. re: re: re: re: re: re: re: re: Journey to the Heavyside Layer Pets are part of the family. I find it is frustrating that dogs & cats don't live as long as humans do. You get used to them being there and deaths are so hard to accept.

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's usually with reluctance that past pet owners consider buying new pets. When my dog died three years ago, it took us a whole year of begging for my dad to give in and let us get a new dog, because its hard to cope with getting something that you know you will lose.

But not to depress anyone -- Pets are wonderful and they are always there for you no matter what. All they need is love and attention, which is essentially what human beings crave as well. I love my little puppy. She's a diva.

There is nothing worse than the death of a beloved pet. I've been there and know EXACTLY what you are going through.

My beloved dog of 12 years died this summer, so I know exactly how you feel. But do feel comforted in that he had a happy life and that he went inside the house he was so comfortable with among things and smells he loved and feeling your presence until the very end. Keep the great memories and give your love to another pet, like I did. My new Westie puppy helped me so much deal with my pain and no, I don't feel I betrayed my other dog's memory, because that's exactly what he'd want, to see me happy again. Pets are sooo much better than humans, at least they never betray you.

Take care
