There's a good obit of Judy Lewis in today's NY Times and if I knew how to post a link I would.
Everybody has a story and Judy's was a bit more interesting than most. The book is worth reading if you can find a copy.
If anyone "got the call of the wild", I'd say it was her mother who was as close to a professional Catholic as ever has been in Hollywood.
Loretta Young is the one who had the swear box on the set, and after telling Merman she owed fifty cents for some colorful phrase or other, was told by self-same Ethel, "Here's ten bucks, now go f**k off, Loretta."
