You mean all it takes to be "more" than a friend to AndyHardy is the Gerald Frank Judy biography?

Posted: 5/16/05 at 12:32pmCM2 - I was just assuming because you made it here to BWW that you turned out OK, perhaps I am jumping to conclusions. While I haven't made it to visit Judy's remains, I worship her daily from afar ...

Glebb, yeah I saw the "big pink Bible" and new you were okay.
...if any star needs a grave relocation it is Montgomery Clift. Now there is a depressing site (if you can find him!)
Never went to Judy's grave myself. But I did go to her hometown of Grand Rapids, Minnesota and saw where she came into this world. Took me three planes. The last one had propellers and looked like Lindburgh had flown in it. Glebb and I added a "tribute brick" to their yellow brick road that said we love Baby Gumm. (Ha! See Glebb, I can tell stories too!) :)

Posted: 5/16/05 at 12:53pmSo what is the obsession with Miss Garland. I know she's talented and all that; but many people have talent. Why the gay man obsession with her? I've no idea.
#35re: Judy getting moved? (Yeah, THAT Judy)

Because she had the MOST talent -- then and now.
?
*EDIT* Sexy legs there Glebby!

Posted: 5/16/05 at 12:56pmI'm not a gay man.

Posted: 5/16/05 at 1:02pmCM2 - too hard to explain ... You either get it or you don't - not a dig at ya, just a fact. I, for one, don't understand the obsession many Americans have with football, but I just accept it.
#39re: Judy getting moved? (Yeah, THAT Judy)
Posted: 5/16/05 at 1:06pmFootball I get. I get being a fan of hers and all that; it's the obsession with her I don't get.

Posted: 5/16/05 at 1:10pmDidn't mean to imply you were a man, Rath. I just meant there seems to be an obsession with Judy Garland among the gay male community. Not to negate the fact that other communities may be obsessed with her as well.

Posted: 5/16/05 at 1:16pmPersonally, right now I'm working on a butterbean obsession, but that is in addition to rather than in place of my Judy obsession.

An obsession of any kind is unhealthy. A respect for talent is what I believe most have for Judy in that she has been the only one who could "do it all" -- sing unbelievably, act, and hold her own while dancing with the greats.
Mind you, this was not the widespread mind-set twenty years ago but now that her work is so readily available for viewing -- I think many have revised their estimation of her and really respect what the little lady accomplished.
...my humble two cents.

Posted: 5/16/05 at 1:25pmActually, I couldn't open that link. But, anyway, I'm actually more of a fan of her acting ability than her singing. Her voice really does nothing for me, but I think she can deliver a line, better than almost anyone.

Well said, Mr Hardy -
All I have to say is watch her sing "Over the Rainbow" from Wizard of Oz, "Not for Me" from Girl Crazy, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" from Meet Me In St. Louis, "In the Valley Where the Evening Sun Goes Down" from the Harvey Girls, and then "The Man That Got Away" from A Star is Born and you'll know what we mean...

ConvinceMe, I agree with you on her ability to read a line. I was watching the film "The Shop Around The Corner" the other day (which Judy remade as "In The Good Old Summertime") Often, the lines in the original were identical in the remake -- and damn, if Judy didn't read them all better, funnier and with more sincerity.
Watch the final scene from The Harvey Girls between Judy and Angela Lansbury. Some of the most trite dialog ever written delivered by real pros who make it sound like Ibsen.
