Joined by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and special guest vocalists, Julie Andrews is your host for timeless Rodgers & Hammerstein classics, from The Sound of Music, The King & I, Cinderella, and more. After intermission she becomes the storyteller for the newly created musical adaptation of her best-selling children's book, Simeon's Gift, an enchanting tale of beauty, music and the power of giving.
I went to see this Friday night and it was phenomenal! Julie Andrews was stunning, and sang for a good majority of the night, even post vocal surgery. In her opening bit, she talked about how she can't quite hit those high notes anymore, but she can still sing the heck out of Ol Man River:)
Highlight of the evening? Julie herself inviting the audience to sing along at the end of Act 2 to Do-Re-Mi.
The (Hollywood) hills are alive...

Posted: 7/21/08 at 1:19pmI was also there Friday night.. and while it was fun to see Julie.. the evening was dull. The singers that were with her brought nothing to their songs. The second half of the show.. which comprised of that musical fable she has been promoting was atrocious and punishing. But.. I am still glad I got to see Julie.

Dame-The 2nd half was...interesting. I loved the illustrations they were showing (I'm assuming were from the book), but wow. The fish singing about bubbles was the best part. And by best I mean best distraction:)
I didn't think the other singers were terrible. In fact I thought they were extremely talented. The acting was off, but given the situation, the focus was more on the singing anwyay.
