Our semi-beloved DollyPop frequently preaches on the " perils of alcohol". Does anyone really know just what are those perils are? Does Dolly Pop ever explain to us about the perils of alcohol? Don't tell me he that he doesn't periodically imbibe !. Perhaps some Chianti or maybe some Bombay Sapphire Gin on occasion? Does he actually practice what he preaches? Come on DP.........please explain. { Unless you are too hung over from New Year's Eve.}

I cannot speak for Dolly Pop, but at least for me, it is not the consumption that is the peril, but the excessive consumption that can damange life, limb and mental capacity. I have occassionally been the victim, but more often usually the witness, of the damage done by excessive drinking. There are also those who seem to be allergic to alcohol. This is by no means a scientific survey, but many of my Japanese, Korean and Chinese friends could not drink much without breaking out into a rash.

Wine, especially red wine, in moderation, has been found to have beneficial effects on the body. If you have a glass of wine now and then, or a mixed drink, it should not be a problem, so long as you can stop with one. It is those who drink too much and cannot stop at one glass that have a perilious road ahead.

Too much alcohol not only causes long term damage to your liver, but kills brain cells and actually begins to affect mental capacity. Behavior associated with excessive consumption can isolate you and result in social expulsion from certain groups. It can cost you your job, your family, your life. It can steal all of gifts you were born with.

Alcohol can also be a sign of self-medicating for other issues, such as depression. I have a family member who did this (at least in my unqualified opinion) and in the process, drank away his genius mind and his ability to exploit many of the gifts he was given. Over time, Alcohol is like any other drug, it steals you from yourself.

So, I think it is not the drink per se that is the peril, but the drinker and how he or she uses the legal drug.

Probably more info that you ever want, and I am sure DollyPop will have a different view.

Oh Yeah - one of the biggest perils of all - waking up, turning over, and looking at something and thinking "WTF - I must have been really drunk to bring that home/go home with that. No more drinking for me." Then comes the moment of looking around in panic to make sure a used condom is in sight."

Hopefull, no one had that thought this morning, so Happy New Year one and all.

All I can say is if you choose to drink, please, for the love of everything important to you, do not drive.

Cotton mouth is nasty.

I think alcohol is fine if taken in moderation. It's only when it's done to excess that there's really any peril involved. If you ARE going to indulge, then be sure to do with someone who's sober so you don't do anything stupid like DRIVE.

Hi, Shirley Temple Pudding.

Dollypop does indeed imbibe from time-to-time. In fact he was in the Times Square area last evening with an extremely handsome and urbane gentlemean who is well-know to BWW members. During dinner they finished off one of those two liter bottles of champagne--and then staggered into SWEET CHARITY. At that point Dollypop thought the star of the show was Christina Aguilera. She should have been.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

It's good to know that those who need to understand the perils of alcohol are the ones who are asking what they are.

I can rarely drink because I have diabetes. It has been my experience that the ones who preach the perils of alcohol are the ones who usually need to be preached to.

Betty Hutton, a notorious alcoholic (recovering now, PTL) starred in the Perils of Pauline where she sang the song Papa Don't Preach. Then she found the Lord. And not a martini too soon.

PEACE.

Perhaps Corine will learn a lesson from Ms Hutton.

Flowery Friend,

You should not be sharing such detailed descriptions of your drunken revelry. Such dirty little secrets should be swept under the carpet along with your overdrawn bank statements and the details of your Aunt Martha's hysterectomy.

No wonder you didn't realize Macbeth was a male character!

Have a Safe and Sober New Year!
