Who drew those black and white cartoons of broadway characters that were shown last night on the PBS special? I thought they were brilliant and would definately buy them and have them framed to hang with the rest of my broadway posters/playbills.
They were drawn by Al Herschfeld.
Al Herschfeld
RIP, indeed. Very sad.
Noday...
Al Hirschfeld was THE Broadway charactrist (hope I spelled that right!) for MANY years. (His sketches of a new show always appeared in the Sunday New York Times the week the show opened.)
His original sketches are PRICELESS items that are most likely sold on Ebay for $$$$.
I would imagine a good theater store might have some less expensive reproductions (if not, try to mail order Footlight Records in NYC.)
BTW, how are things up in McKinney tonight?
I might look for some reproductions if I get the chance... check out this site: https://www.alhirschfeld.com/index2.html
His work is brilliant it's so sad that he passed away
Thanks for your help everyone
'BTW, how are things up in McKinney tonight?'
It's really rainy.. otherwise same old. My life is sort of blah at the moment, though I did just recently see Jesus Christ Superstar and plan on going to Lubbock (? not sure if I remembered/spelled that city correctly) to see the Aida tour.
Thank God it's Friday.
Lubbock is getting road companies NOW?
My, aren't we getting cosmopolitan! :)
