Fox News is the only way they can really be ultra conservative before the whole country is questioning their "Fair and Balanced" reporting. If all they showed programming-wise was the same as PAX, people would not take their news seriously. They catch viewers and viewership by attracting a diverse audience through The Simpsons and Family Guy, and then (when it was still only one network), let people stick around to see their "news" programs. Then, when their viewership was great enough, they started a whole tabloid network of their very own.
I might add that any Family Guy episodes you see on Fox now, have had any Bush jokes or references edited out. If you have a box set with the episodes uncut, you will notice.
