Posted: 5/13/04 at 12:01amI believe in Karma. Like if I am a bitch to people they will be a bitch to me.
re: Karma#6
Posted: 5/13/04 at 12:18amI try to be nice to everyone, and though bad things sometimes happen, I am very good at seeing the silver lining. I don't know if people who are nice to others and are helpful and such just look for the good things in life so it seems better, or if good things actually do happen for them because of their kindness. As I have said before, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle.

Posted: 5/13/04 at 1:05amI'm like Iflit. I know people have a need to see that the universe is not completely random, and so they try to impose some sort of structure on it. Even if it's something as simple as repeating the phrase, "Everything happens for a reason." But I simply don't believe it's true. Horrible things happen to really good people all the time. And bad people pass out while trying to eat a pretzel.

And how do we know who's good, who's nice, what's good, what's nice? By using what standards? Some may appear to seem nice without an ounce of truth or sincerity. Is that good? Some may play people, but do it nicely. Is that good?
And if Karma exist, then where does Divine retribution come into play?

Karma is, I believe, part of eastern philosphy. I believe in something similar but it's more of the Wiccan form of Karma. We are made up of and surrounded by energy, both neagtive and positive. When you open yourself up to the positive energy, you draw more of to you. This gives you a feeling of well being and a good outlook which leads to doing good. Good deeds attract positive energy because you drawing on the positive. The opposite happens with negative energy. However, since there is certain amount of randomness involved and since nobody can completely control the enrgy around them, bad things will happen to good people. Being a very good person doesn't mean that nothing bad will happen to you.
Deepak Chopra has written a couple of books that deal with this theory on a scientific level, explaining quantam physics and the effect of the universal energy that were are part of.
I know, it all sounds nuts, very Shirley MacLaine and all but, what can I say? It makes sense tome that if all living things are made of basically the same structual elements and are powered by teh same energies there can be a connection made to the universe at large whereby we have some amount of control.
As far as everything happening for a reason, I believe that too but, not because of a pre determined plan set out in the universe. I think that you can make something have happened for a reason if you can learn from it.
