Kate Bush 'Aerial'

Drops tomorrow...anyone as exicted as me? Do you think it will be as great as her masterpiece 'The Hounds of Love' or (in my opinion) a lesser work like 'The Red Shoes' (never warmed to it).
What is your favorite Kate song? Mine is 'This Woman's Work' (which when I get really low, is incredibly comforting - and yes, I know it is about childbirth).

A friend of mine sent me this review from Newbury Comics, the best independent chain in the world:
"It's been 10 years since we've heard from Kate. What has the woman who some
argue single handedly invented Fiona Apple and Tori Amos been doing all this
time? From the sound of Aerial...having a child, doing some laundry, pondering
the joyful internal mysteries of the world. Divided into two CDs, Aerial works as a
whole divided into parts. 'A Sea of Honey' reflects on the wonders of homelife and the internal
world while 'A Sky of Honey' reflects on the wonders of art and creation, both entirely rapturous
with Kate's voice; single and pure as ever. Kate's always been ethereal, but on the title track her
laughter even duets with birds. A triumphant artistic return. Welcome home, Kate. To yours and
mine. -- Robbie at the Newbury St. Boston Store"

It's about almost dying in childbirth, no less. My favorite Kate track is Jig Of Life and I am beside myself for the new album. It was supposed to be with me today but Amazon dropped the ball.
And it's been 12 years since Kate released an album.

I also love 'Jig Of Life' - actually in preparation for the new album I have rediscovered how much I love 'Hounds of Love' and the 'The Ninth Wave' - my favorite song from that is 'Hello Earth'
I did just get a e-mail from Amazon that mine shipped! btw, Best Buy has it on sale for less - $14.99 (I sent Amazon an e-mail, but and they responded they do not do price matching).
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#4
Posted: 11/7/05 at 6:35pmWell it came out today in the UK, see. So I should have had mine this morning. Grrr. Apparently the second CD on Aerial takes The Ninth Wave idea to the next level.

I can't remember the name of the song, but is sounded like Satan was doing back-up for her.
"You have awakened me!!!"
*And when I first saw the post I was thinking, "Kate Bush as Arial? Hmmmm. 'I'll be swimmin' up that hill, and make a deal with God' all underwater...."*
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#6
Posted: 11/7/05 at 6:43pmI think that could be Waking The Witch which is also part of Ninth Wave on Hounds Of Love.
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#7
Posted: 11/7/05 at 6:50pmAnd let's raise a cup to The Futureheads, whose dandy speedy cover of Hounds of Love has primed the UK for Kate's triumphant return.
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#8
Posted: 11/7/05 at 7:08pmI'm assuming by dandy and speedy you mean hateful travesty.
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#9
Posted: 11/7/05 at 8:45pmAs soon as I put the cd in the player and it started, I was transported! It is so wonderful to hear a new album from her! Unfortunately, I left the cd at work, so I have to wait until tomorrow to hear it again (and drive my co-workers insane!)

I am so jealous Magdalene...I want it already!
Don't know the Futureheads, but there is only ONE Kate!
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#11
Posted: 11/8/05 at 5:33amListening to it right now. It's very interesting.
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#12
Posted: 11/8/05 at 11:05amYou have to let us know how you like it!!! I put it on as soon as I got into work.
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#13
Posted: 11/8/05 at 11:43amThe song about her mother dying is beyond beautiful. There's a lot to take in though so it needs a few more listens before I can completely decide what I think about it all.
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#14
Posted: 11/13/05 at 1:39pmOk so I have listened it a few times now and I am in awe of it. It's a gloriously gorgeous record and an amazing acheivement for Kate Bush (who apparently has 2 more albums to release in 2006). I think I must have a thing for lyrics that repeat at the moment because i have had "you bring me so much joy and then you bring me more joy" stuck in my head for days now.

Tori Amos and Fiona Apple aren't worthy of cleaning Kate Bush's toilet.
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#16
Posted: 11/13/05 at 1:44pmThey would be if they were scrubbing Kate's toilet with Joss Stone's head.

I really don't like Fiona Apple but don't go dissing Tori Amos now

Sorry, pop, I know how you feel about her. You're the biggest lesbian I know when it comes to music.
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#19
Posted: 11/13/05 at 1:47pmAnd proud of it, baby!

Just bought it the other day and haven't got around to listening to the second part. It's alot more mellow and less experimental than previous works, but it's nice to have her back. She hasn't lost one ounce of her eccentricity.
Slishy, sloshy, slishy, sloshy....

Get that dirty shirty clean
.
I think my favorite song is the last one on the first CD. "Put your hand over the side of the boat, what do you feel?" WONDERFUL.
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#22
Posted: 1/10/06 at 11:47amI've never heard anything by Kate but I'm tihnking about checking her out. Where should I start?

At the beginning of course!
Get yourself a copy of The Kick Inside, it's an amazing album.
re: Kate Bush 'Aerial'#24
Posted: 1/10/06 at 11:53amThanks, Poppy. Do any of you listen to Heather Nova? I'm asking because I love her and I'm wondering if they are at all comparable.
