Kevin Spacey cast as Lex Luthor in upcoming Superman movie

What do we all think? I find it weird that shooting starts on March 3rd but Spacey will not be on set until AUGUST due to his commitments with the Old Vic in London. That's a long time to shoot without your villain.

Wonder Woman is on the cards. I think I read somewhere that Sarah Michelle Gellar was duking it out with her old castmate Charisma Carpenter for the role. Charisma Carpenter would RULE as Wonder Woman.

I think Spacey's at his best when playing not-quite-good to bad guys. He should do just fine here.

Spacey as Luthor. Able to leap on barely legal boys in a single bound.

Wha? He's definitely done the villain (or at least sleazy guy) before. He was the main villain in A Bug's Life and Se7en, as I remember it. And I think his characters in L.A. Confidential and Hurlyburly were sleazy at the very least.

I would have thought that Mr. Spacey would have been more suited to Miss Teschmacher.

Kevin Spacey's first major impact to the public was playing the super creepy villain Mel Profitt on the TV series WISEGUY.

He also won an Oscar for THE USUAL SUSPECTS playing Verbal Kint, who in fact was really....

Oops - don't want to spoil it! (Although Jack did on an episode of Will and Grace)

And who will ever forget his portrayal of Jim Bakker (opposite Bernadette Peters as Tammy Faye)

Why another Superman movie? With the fours Superman movies from 1978-1987 and the recent death of Christopher Reeve, it just seems too soon for yet another Superman. If they need to make yet another superhero film, there are still plent of other superheroes to choose from. Wonder Woman is an excellent idea as well as Silver Surfer, Green Hornet, Green Lantern, The Flash, Thor, Aquaman, Captain America, Shazam, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Captain Marvel, or for some fun......Dazzler.

Yeah, I understand the DC connection. I was just tossing out ideas in general. But my main question is, why Superman now? I know he has to get resurrected every now and then, but there really doesn't seem to be a need for more Superman at the moment. We had Lois and Clark and now we have Smallville. We've got plenty of other superhero flicks recently filmed and in the works. I just think the timing is WAY off for a feature film with an icon as big as Superman. What made the 1978 film so special is that there weren't so many superhero films at the time and Superman in particular hadn't been featured in popular entertainment for quite a while.
