That was Kim Hunter.

I never tire of PICNIC, an iconic film of the 50s.
Two images are definitive, both involving a kind of time stop: Holden and Novak paralyzed by desire as the train races by, and the frozen moment on the dock, Kim with hands akew, before resuming the slow cross to Holden to "Moonglow." You can laugh at both, but they are hypnotic.
(The problem with PICNIC: Miscast Susan Strasberg is a nubile Lolita, hardly the tortured Millie, despite an affected voice (that has little to do with Kansas) the sexiest "nerdy" brainiac in the midwest. You keep expecting Holden to go for her, at least for about 20 minutes.)

Do you think that this is the first time TCM has shown Middle of the Night. If it has been shown before, it has been a number of years.

I have a favorite Kim Novak film that is great, but for all the wrong reasons:
The Legend of Lylah Clare.
So ghastly it is brilliant. They don't know how to make them this bad any more.
"Tell them Lylah's coming! Just as soon as she gets into harness!"

Posted: 4/16/08 at 9:45amPicnic is absolutely my favorite KN film - but not necessarily because of her. I honestly think she's a terrible actress. I never believed in any of her characters. A very beautiful lady - but that's about it.
A click for life.

And now when there's moonglow, way up in the blue,
I'll always remember that moonglow gave me you.

I don't think she was any great actress or anything, but VERTIGO is unthinkable without her.
LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE is pretty laughable, but I know people who love it.
