"One of the things I like about Women of Faith—and it’s very important for me to make this statement right now—is I am a person of faith. I am a Christian, but I have no judgment towards people who don’t believe like I do. When they asked me to do this conference, I said, ‘I need you to know that my best friend is gay. And I almost married someone out of my faith. We didn’t break up because of our differences in faith either. I’m not perfect, but I am a Christian and I don’t want there to be any confusion about what I believe or who I am. I don’t believe gay people are going to hell. I believe that judgment is left to the one upstairs and I believe Jesus is all about love.’ If I can live my life even just a smidgen the way God made his son for us as an example, I’m happy. I do not judge other people for what they believe, but for me, this is what works.”

Actually, good for her for saying it. I think she is spunky and, quite frankly, would love to see her bring up her gay friends, given the chance, to people like Pat Robertson. I'm sure they make certain to steer clear of issues like that, though.

Well, if your case was that she might influence Christians to be open minded, you may rest it. MAYBE, she will gain fans from 700 Club and change their minds.
But, if it was thinking that anyone here had ever doubted that she was gay friendly, you may not as no one ever said anything to that effect.

Wow--you mean she actually said that on the 700 Club? to Pat Robertson's face?
That's amazing!

Posted: 4/20/05 at 11:54pmTo be honest, I don't care where she said it, I'm just glad she came out and said it period. In this day and age, it doesn't really matter that much where you say something, because it all comes together and blends on the internet anyway.

Posted: 4/21/05 at 12:34amshe didnt say it to Pat Robertson... but then again he was not the one who conducted the interview with her on the show. I believe that had she been asked the question "Do you support gay people and their rights" she would have stayed true to her on convictions and said yes. But the question was NOT asked in the interview... I still dont understand the hoopla over this. She has said in various othe interviews that she is a liberal christian. She is nondenominational...which allows her to have her own views on the world that we live in today, without the influence of a certain branch of the church breathing down her neck telling her she is wrong. I do not think appearing on that show was a lapse in judgement at all... if she gained one fan from that show who looks her up on the internet... maybe that one person might question their own beliefs. You never know what kind of POSITIVE impact that the show could have created... I dunno. sorry for rambling... im just not seeing the need for outrage.

AGAIN--if she had appeared on a KKK show--wouldn't you see the reason for outrage????
Maybe not as some of you seem to think it's ok to overlook the promotion of hatred against gays and lesbians. None of us are saying that KC promotes that in the least--but she condoned a show that does.

Posted: 4/21/05 at 12:16pmI know, Tom. It's very irritating. It's all well and good to say it to a safe audience, but how wonderful it would have been if she would have said it on the 700 Club!

Posted: 4/21/05 at 7:26pmOK... i can see how it would be unnerving to see someone who supports the gay community on a show that has promoted hatred towards the same community. I completely see that it is a little hypocritical...I kinda do wish she got a chance to express a little about her own beliefs on the show like rather than simple promotion for a song she talked about how she is christian and still liberal... i think that would have been interesting and educational to the normal christian audience of the show to see that its OK to not believe everything that the churches try to tell you.
