Kristina Chen's Appeal

Why is this ...........person so popular? I know its one thing to laugh as a joke, I was one of them when I first heard of her but she has a HUGE following. I can not listen to her for more than 10 seconds. ANYONE can be famous. Does not matter if your talented or not. I actually feel sort of bad for her. Why aren't her parents or friends or teachers stepping in? Does anyone actually think that this girl thinks she is good? I heard her say in one of her videos that anyone who criticizes her is jealous.
I say lets end this war in Iraq today. Lets just put speakers up all over Baghdad and let Tina perform. We'll wrap this war up in an hour, trust me!

Posted: 7/5/08 at 7:33pmI definitely wonder the same thing. 10 seconds is just enough to make my ears bleed. Who are these people who call themselves her fans? Are they tone-deaf?

Oh my god, this show has everything! Half naked guys and girl on girl action! - [title of show]

re: Kristina Chen's Appeal#2
Posted: 7/5/08 at 7:38pmWell, OK it was a joke the first couple times but since then she has 15,000 friends on Myspace, a hell of a library of songs and videos and all these fans. I swear to God, if she were on American Idol I am convinced she would win. With all these people supporting her and encouraging her, she could win just for popularity and not talent. SO, I guess you really don't need talent to be famous anymore.

Posted: 7/5/08 at 8:23pmPeople obviously know she is horrible. Most people just encourage her because they think its funny, and for their own amusement.

I read this thread title very quickly and thought it said "Kristin Chen's Appeal."
I thought we were going to have another one of those debates about Kristin Chenoweth...

LOL! No debate on Ms. Chenoweth here.

Posted: 7/5/08 at 10:56pmOkay- so my daughter and I were checking out her myspace page. My husband walked in in the middle and asked who was killing the dogs. Now my daughter is going to make her rendition of This is Me her myspace song! She just wants to see how many people will be annoyed with her!

Posted: 7/14/08 at 6:49pmIs it just me, or is it pretty clear that this girl is at least mildly mentally handicapped? I mean, I absolutely don't mean to call her names, I just mean that there seems to be something actually wrong with her.

i would venture that many of those people see her as someone who probably doesn't have a wildly exciting life and possibly not an exceptionally hopeful future and are attracted out of pity. others may find her lack of guile refreshing. some might see someone who is expressing a genuine love of music in the best way she knows how and want to support that. who knows?
are there a certain number who watch her for the sheer train-wreck spectacle of it? of course. i would wager that the support and human interaction she receives outweighs the downside. if it's that offensive to you, don't watch her.

Why are we on think ice? She is wildly popular and I too don't "get" it.
If you're referring to not making fun of her if she has Downs Syndrome, then I agree that it's not very nice.
But when you put something out there for the world to see, you have be prepared to take the good with the bad.
I admit to laughing at her. Not b/c of here possible handicap, but b/c she says outrageous and ridiculous things. Have you seen any of her videos DG?
re: Kristina Chen's Appeal#16
Posted: 7/15/08 at 11:35amI do not believe she has down syndrome. I do however believe the girl is deaf! What offends me is that she has not done any show tunes! I say we make a list and send them to her! I think she would make an awesome Elphaba!!! I also have to ask if John Waters has discovered her yet.
re: Kristina Chen's Appeal#17
Posted: 7/15/08 at 11:38amThe video where she described her perfect man was annoying. She comes off like a that douche in the video romantico posted last week about how not to pick up a girl.

Taz - I was merely recommending caution, that's all. And not really anything to do with this particular young lady, but just discussion involving individual capacity or condition - it touches some people here directly, hence the prudence of caution (at least to my mind.)
As to your question, no I haven't - no interest.

I hate how she repeats herself. "Be sure to vote for me and make me number one. Don't forget to vote for me. Tell your friends to vote for me, etc." I still say John Waters could make her a star!
I am baffled by the comments on her page. What are these people smoking?

I kind of want to punch her in the face.
Mostly because she's just that annoying.

The thing is, I love a good internet trainwreck. I can watch Friday meltdowns for hours. But I can't get through a single song of hers because she is JUST THAT TONEDEAF. It's the same problem I had with Prussian Blue. Sure, they're neo-Nazis, but that would be something I could watch with detached horror; however, *tonedeaf* neo-Nazis... I can't even spectate that s***. XP
