Don't you mean "endings?" I kept putting on my coat, taking it off, every time the screen turned snow white. But no credit roll, not for days. We'd cut back to more tearful goodbyes and revelations about Middle Earth moral responsbilities (I think), and Hobbit rites of passage. I was expecting to see Sam cut the cord as his first pointy-eared offspring came screaming, in Doby 6-track, into the world. And one more zoom in/close-up of the random-toothed Mister Frodo, the androgynous Mr. Wood, with his bug-eyed sense of faux Spielbergian wonder... Sorry, I respect all the talent involved, just think less would've been more. Even after 9 hours.

Read the non-PC Caryn James piece in the Times Arts and Leisure today--a lady who attributed her constant watch-checking to the fact of her pudenda. She takes a gender-specific stand on the ennui the many excesses preciptitate. Me (sorry, Caryn, a "guy"), I just went to the mens room, splashed cold water on my face, and thought about the bottle of wine waiting and chilling at home.

I just saw it this afternoon and it was a great ending to such a wonderful trilogy. I never read the books so each one was new to me and I had no idea how it all ended. I must say that I am really going to miss those characters. Anyone else see it?! Any comments?

I loved it--a great ending to the greatest trilogy of all time--and I say that because as a whole, it is tighter than The Godfather or Star Wars trilogies, even though individual Godfather and/or Star Wars films could be argued as better.

Furthermore, The Return of the King furthered my point as to why Matrix Revolutions SUCKED. Forget great action sequences--you have to stay true to the story, which Matrix did not.

Also, I bet that a second viewing of ROTK will have one feeling less annoyed by the ending now that you know what the ending is---folks who have read the book knew this (whereas I did not myself, having not read the books yet).
