Thanks. It must be age setting in where I had a different memory of the ending.

I love this movie. I used to have the original ending on my computer- so for those of you who want to see it, you might be able to find it somewhere online.
I believe the ending of the original Corman film has Seymour live. During a press conference however, Audrey 2's flowers open up and displays the faces of the murdered victims. A crowd chases Seymour and he escapes them by hiding in a garbage dump. The parting shot of him is in a garbage dump emerging from a discarded toilet bowl(or at least that is how I remember it. I haven't seen it in 20 years!).

I remember it differently. Of course, it's also been about 20 years since I've seen it, too (my brother and I were obsessed with all things Little Shop in our youth). I remember him getting eaten and his face popping up in one of Audrey Jr's (the original plant's name) buds and a voice over of him whining "I didn't mean to do it" or something to that effect.
does 3 years old really count as youth, Kringas?

You flatter me.
I love this movie, even with the changed ending. I saw the original ending on a website a while back, but the name of the site escapes me at the moment. It was pretty cool seeing Audrey 2 rampaging through the city like king kong or godzilla. I think that the final shot of Audrey 2 overtaking the statue of liberty was the most memorable scene in the original ending.
I would really love to see the original movie, the one that Menken and Ashman based the show on.
The outtakes of the film on the DVD Extras features has a picture of two large Audrey 2's tearing up downtown ala Ghostbusters or King Kong.
The original ending can be found on Alan M.s website.
I wish I had the sddress for you, but, alas, I don't.
It's a hoot to see.
I'm not sure if the link still works but here's the original ending...http://www.megaupload.com/?d=45UFBRG9

"When Ellen Greene shifts from her mousy-little-Audrey manner of speech to her big Broadway singing voice, it's like pent-up passion being released--you have no idea where that sound is coming from."

I really wish the Threepenny Opera album she's on would be released on CD.
And Kael's comment on Ellen Greene is why still to this day, after seeing her as Penny in Hairspray, I don't get how Kerry Butler managed to bugger it up so completely.
Kringas, perhaps you are right. I will have to rent the original again from Netflix and check it out.
Thanks Seymour. I have always wanted to see the unhappy ending. As much as I loved the film, I always felt as if they missed the boat (even as much as I like Mean Green Mother from Outer Space).

Yeah, and it's a big perhaps, Snafu. Like I said, that's just how I remember it, but it's been way too long for me to actually trust the validity of that memory.

I once was skipping channels and stopped on the song Suddenly Seymour to listen and watch the rest of the movie, but once Seymour and Audrey finished singing, everything flipped and went into Spanish.
I didn't notice I was on Telemundo Cinema. I wish I had Tivo'd it or something... Really funny to hear the dubbing.
