I'm genuinely curious. Does anyone on this board speak Ladino?

Anyone actually know what it is?

I speak Spanglish, I have no idea if that's close to Ladino.

It's Jewish Spanish. Just like Yiddish is Jewish German.

Man, I knew this would be useless. re: Ladino?

Spanglish es mi cosa favorita. Uso Spanglish cuando no quiero trabajar con verbs.

And Plum, I had no idea what you said. I'm just disturbed by the 'k' beginning a verb...ya don't see a lot of that.

Spanglish es muy useful porque no me gusta los verbos conjugationes.

It think it means "Tell a story" or "Tell me a story." My maternal grandparents are both dead and their kids (my mom and uncles) only speak the language semi-fluently.

I wonder if there's a Ladino dictionary somewhere. Doubtful. Sephardis don't get that much attention.

What is Broadway? A street? Some say it's a street. Some say it is the best street in the world. Others think its terrible. That's the beauty of it, it's terribly beautiful. Some hate it and don't know why. Others love it and don't know why. That's what makes it so wonderful, it's a mystery.

El Espanol en los colegios gives my abilities un nombre malo. Hace cuatros anos que estudia espanol en mi escuela, pero I really delved into it y preste atencion. (yes, I'm too lazy for them ' marks) I even took un examen para los estudiantes excelentes en NJ. Oh well, mi sueno es to become fluent in it.

(P.S. I'm a hell of a better translator than I am a writer or speaker re: ladino? ) Updated On: 9/3/04 at 09:44 PM

I used to sing in the Connecticut Hebrew Chorale and we did songs in Hebrew, Yiddish, English and Ladino. My favorite Ladino song was called El Padre Avrohom. Translates as The Father Abraham. Mixture of Spanish and Hebrew spoken by Sephardic Jews mostly from Spain and Northern Africa.
