I'm sorry ol Bill will be off until July, because last night's edition of his HBO show was juicy. David Axis of Evil Frum vs. the incomparable Gore Vidal. My favorite moment was Vidal's Lloyd Benson like comeback to Frum invoking WWII as a metaphor for the action in Iraq. Vidal reminded him he fought in the Great War, and the comparison -- especially coming from someone like Frum -- specious. We also got a bit of Eddie Izzard for color and spice, who said it's great to go around the world removing dictators, but why not start at "A" and work your way down to "Z"; why begin with "S"? He also said he, like most Europeans, is tired of having Bush referred to as "the Leader of the Free World," stating that Europeans are part of that World and didn't get to vote. Good stuff. If it's repeated, do not miss it. Bill's closing schtick about goody bags for red and blue states was pointed.

Related: no wonder Tim Robbins' satire, now running in NY, felt toothless. We have 24-48 hour turn around on current events, so almost any Gelbart-styled writing gets stale real fast.
