I have become hooked on lavender not only for the beautiful fragrance but for it's relaxant properties. I tried a lavender and chamomile tea that simply knocks me out every night. The fragrance is wonderful as I have lavender candles and potpouri.Downy is coming out with a lavernder scented fabric softener.Anyone else use it or other herbs { legal ones} for relaxation?

To loosely quote Julia Sugarbaker (speaking to her son's snooty, older lover who asked for lavendar for her bath)

"No.. but I'm sure we have some 20 mule team borax around here somewhere"

I, too, love the scent of lavender. I put in a few plants this summer and hope to have a full bed of lavender growing in my yard in a few years.

Yankee Candles have captured the authentic scent of the plant and Yardley soaps does a nice job in capturing the aroma.

This past weekend I was at an Open House at a local garden center (Marder's in Bridgehampton, Long Island) and their gift shop had magnificent lavender soap--at $8/bar!!!!!!!!

DollyPop...I didnt know you wer4e also a lavender fan. You can dry the plants by hanging them upside down. Someone once gave me a recipe for lavender muffins. They were divine!

Yup! I love lavender! I'm tempted to take another trip to Bridgehampton to take another whiff of that $8 soap--and the cute fella that was selling them! (His name is Peter. He's 6' 2" and has a great smile!)

Maybe you can take him home with you to demonstrate how to use that soap. All in the interest of marketing, of course!

Lavender is so relaxing.

When I lived in Paris the laundry that I took my linens to used to sprinkle them with lavender water when they pressed them. I loved it.

Cookie...I love the lavender products from L'Occitane.

I've never had the Fauchon tea. Maybe I'll stop by there tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestion!

the tea has been harder to find, ever since they started closing the other NYC branches, leaving only the 56th Street and Park Ave one open.

Though, I'm sure when you're next in Paris, you should stock up...

Fortunately, the 56th and Park location is easy for me to get to...

But, a trip to Paris sounds like a better solution. If only...

The store on 79th and 3rd was wonderful. I got my exposure to their lavendar tea there.

If anyone likes baths, there is a company called LUSH and they have great bath bombs with lavendar in them.

quality lavender oil and plant is pricless! It is especially wonderful for massage when cut with pure lanolin.

My good friend has a greenhouse and starts all of my herb and some flower seed there in Feb/March. By May I have the most wonderful herbs and flowers ever. I treasure my herb garden.
I often get seed from Europe and last year had the most wonderful lavender, lemon sage and tarragon.

Such beauties from the earth!

Someone once gave me a recipe for lavender muffins. They were divine!

TCGY - I have a recipe for lavender ice cream sitting around somewhere, but I haven't tried it yet. I've used lavender in whipped cream, though.

""Someone once gave me a recipe for lavender muffins. They were divine!""

Wow! I'd love to have that recipe. I've never used it for cooking as I didn't think it was edible.

I'm not all that lucky. Gail's greenhouse is a lot of work year round! I helped her with it last year while she went on holiday. WHEW! A labor of love.... much like a farmer.
