And end of summer movie rumination... (SPOILERS)
I've read two reviews that state the Chow character in the irreverant men-will-be-boys comedy, THE HANGOVER, is a stereotypical throwback, an no-PC insult to at least three groups (4 if you count Gamblers Anonymous). I guess I don't get the offense. I've never seen a character like this bizarre fellow in my entire movie-going life, and I'm not exactly in the PG-13 demographic. Everything he does on screen is riveting, making him one of the most unique "villains" (is that what he is?) to grace a comedy in a long time. For some reason, Truman Capote in MURDER BY DEATH comes to mind. Along with the student who first says 'Franken-stein' to Gene's "Frankensteen." But what a strange man, what a performance. Where the hell did it come from, and how was it decided that HE is what this buddy movie needed to kick ass in the third act? I'm still laughing as I think of his exit.
Auggie, he was one of the best things about that movie!! I just LOVED him!
Best exit I've seen in a movie in AGES!!!
Why were the reviewers only focusing on him? If they were looking for stereotypes, what about the African American cop as the loud, angry Black woman. Or Heather Graham (sp??) as the trailer trash stripper? The fat weirdo that's really a math genius? It's a frickin' kick ass comedy! LOL
