I've been watching "I Love Lucy" on DVD every night now and just wanted to express my love for Vivian Vance.
Lucille Ball is fantastic, even beyond, but Viv usually seems to get lost behind her image. Well, I'm here to say "We love you Viv!".
She was an amazing actress with perfect timing, and her voice was to die for. Anyone rememeber the epsiode "The Operetta" where Viv sang "Lily of the Valley" in lovely operatic tones then belted the last part? Sublime.
Let's hear it for Viv!

i identify with Vivian Vance.
i wish i was more like Lucy, but i must accept & embrace that i am more like Viv.
I Love Viv!
Not only as Ethel, but also as Viv on The Lucy Show. My favorites were when they decided to fix the shower themselves to save money and when they had to use bunk beds.
And let's not forget that Vivian Vance got her start on Broadway in musicals. She was Ethel Merman's understudy in the original Anything Goes and she was also in Red, Hot & Blue.
And she co-starred with Danny Kaye and Eve Arden in Cole Porter's Let's Face It.
LOVE!

I don't know if it's still in print, but try to pick up Frank Castelluccio and Alvin Walker's The Other Side of Ethel Mertz. I read it not too long ago. It's a pretty interesting read.
My favorite I Love Lucy episode is the one where they stop in Albuquerque (Ethel's home town) on their way to California. I think this might be the funniest Lucy ever.
My all time FAVORITE is the "Vitametavegimen" episode. I don't think I ever laughed that hard at a TV episode before or since. "Are you unpoopular? Do you pop out at parties?"

Lucy in a chocolate factory - funny.
Lucy in a chocolate factory run amok - funnier.
Lucy and Ethel together in the factory run amok - priceless.
I'm an "Ethel's Hometown" lover myself.

of the valley, valley, valley over there ...
Viv was a brilliant comedic actress. She was paled by Lucille Ball, but none the less helped make I Love Lucy what it is today. Bravo Vivian Vance, you are not forgotten.
I know a girl's supposed to wait for a Prince to come and get her
But the only Prince I've ever met is my neighbor's Irish Setter...
Lily in The Pleasant Peasant
