Let's Thank Texas State Rep. Senfronia Thompson, a Good Christian

Senfronia Thompson, a state representative from Houston, recently spoke out against the Texas legislature's addition of an anti-gay provision to the state constitution. You can thank her at the link below.

"Members, I'm a Christian and a proud Christian. I read the good book and do my best to live by it. I have never read the verse where it says, 'Gay people can't marry.' I have never read the verse where it says, 'Thou shalt discriminate against those not like me.' I have never read the verse where it says, 'Let's base our public policy on hate and fear and discrimination.' Christianity to me is love and hope and faith and forgiveness -- not hate and discrimination.

"I have served in this body a lot of years, and I have seen a lot of promises broken... So... now that blacks and women have equal rights, you turn your hatred to homosexuals, and you still use your misguided reading of the Bible to justify your hatred. You want to pass this ridiculous amendment so you can go home and brag -- brag about what? Declare that you saved the people of Texas -- from what?"

"I have never read the verse where it says, 'Gay people can't marry.'"

Maybe she should read the entire thing before she makes that statement.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

I saw this today in Molly Ivin's columns and was goign to post it but got busy-- glad you did it PJ!

And I am not religious, but it didn't Jesus come to earth to teach a new lesson? Didn't Jesus talk about tossing out all the old "rules" they had been given and told everyone to follow the one and only new rule: Love one another.

It's been many years since I read the bible, but the only time I recall Jesus getting mad was when he tossed the money changers out of the temple. He hung out with a lot of Sinners and never gave them any grief. I think today's Christians could benefit by following his example.

I just want to remind you that Ms. Thompson is not alone. My 11 year old daughter is in a major feud at school. She will not speak to, or, sit at lunch with a girl who has echoed her father’s conservative views. We will lay a brick one by one against a wall of hate.

Rep. Thompson is a long-time friend of the lesbian and gay community. She was honored several years ago with the Cathedral of Hope's "Hero of Hope" award for being instrumental in passing the James Byrd Hate Crimes law in Texas.

I, too, am waiting for Gotham to cough up a Bible verse...
"I am open, and I am willing, For to be hopeless would seem so strange. It dishonors those who go before us, So lift me up to the light of change." Holly Near

It's in the Book of Goth, chapter 4, verse 2...
"and yea, because we have no way to clingeth to power save fear, we shalt go forth and createth things that our Lord Jesus Christ never uttered, using gay peopleth as instruments of fear and control."

So was it written, so must it be done.
Amen.

Ya know..

Sylvia Browne, in her book Prophecy, says that humans must learn to love and accept one another because that is our biggest danger. Not apocalypse, not the ozone ripping a new one, but not giving your neighbor a hug.

Where are the sappy Coke commercials when you need them?

If I could, I would give this lady of the law a GREAT, BIG hug. And a kiss!
