Letters to Santa: A Muppet Christmas#1

Any thoughts?

On the one hand it was more like the Muppets I remember than some of the past endeavors, but by the same token they did too little with the plot. The story felt rushed (what little there was) and most of the cameos weren't...funny.

MY biggest complaint was the dismisal of Rowlf and Animal as background characters in favor of Rizzo and Pepe (I know, long time coming).

Mad I missed it. But I guess maybe I shouldn't be TOO mad?

That disappoints me that Rizzo and Pepe have become so central -- who are these characters testing well with over the classics?

Hi, Shirley Temple Pudding.

I haven't watched it yet, but I did happen to flip past it and thought I saw Gonzo singing a sad song. That dude is always such a downer at Christmas.

Zepka-
It was cute. Worth a watch, but no way will it topple "Muppet Family Christmas"

Jasonf-
Beats me. Rizzo and Pepe are funny, but Rowlf and Animal are classics.

My favorite is still "It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie."

I watched it. I enjoyed it, though nothing special. My favorite is also "Muppet Family Christmas".

Richard Griffiths was a perfect fit for Santa!

It just started here. I love me some Jesse L Martin...

"Miss Piggy" was on the Today Show today. Her new voice is quite unfortunate.

By new you mean since 2000? That's how long Eric has been doing most of Frank Oz's stuff on these projects...

The Muppets have missed the mark with just about everything they have done since Jim died. I really have a problem with Whitmeyer's Kermit. The voice is very off (there are many people who can do it better) and I find his puppeteering to be a bit sloppy and frenzied.

I was also disappointed with Fozzie/Piggy's voice, I was surprised to see that it's been the same fellow for the past 8 years or so.....either he used to be better or I just wasn't paying attention before. Possibly a bit of both. To be fair his Sam the Eagle was pretty spot on.

I'd have to agree that "It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie" is a favorite, it had me at Moulin Scrooge. Christmas Eve on Sesame Street is another classic.

I think I'll just stick with A MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL, which I love.

I agree, it was cute, but definitely not the same as earlier specials. It was better than the last two movies, which I thought were awful. I think if this one had not been as rushed, it would have been better. But, I do agree that it sort of had the old look back, which is a good thing. I have not really enjoyed the Muppets since The Muppet Christmas Carol, and A Muppet Family Christmas is my favorite of the Christmas specials.

Oh yeah, and I really dislike Pepe. I just find him annoying. Rizzo is okay. And I have heard that Rowlf doesn't get used very often at all because Jim Henson worked with him. I know, they took many of his other characters and still use them, but I guess they thought Rowlf was not as important, I don't know. I also don't know how true this is. I just remember reading it somewhere before. I just don't remember where exactly. But, this was a theory to why he has become a background character, if he is even shown at all.

Marianne-
Well, they took Scooter out of circulation after Richard Hunt passed, and said they wouldn't use him again...but now they are.

I actually thought Eric Jacobson's Fozzie voice has gotten better while his Piggy has gotten worse.

Did anyone else notice the lack of rods?
