"That techno-rock you guys listen to is gutless!"
Awful movie, but so nostalgic. I loved the soundtrack.
MM, I am SO ashamed of you! It is NOT an awful movie! It's wonderful, with one of the best soundtracks ever. And Nicolas Cage--still in his teens with an amazing body and unfixed teeth--has never been sexier.
It is somewhat fun, but I meant awful as in production values. The film is REALLY low-budget almost to the point of appearing unfinished.

Which isn't saying much, really. That and Moonstruck are about as close to "sexy" he ever got, which was still a rather considerable distance. Let's put it this way...if Cage waved, "sexy" might be able to make him out...if it squints. And his voice with the perpetual cold in his nose doesn't help much either.
I concur with Borstal.
I think the fact that it's not as polished as other 80s movies makes it feel more direct and real.
And I love Frederic Forrest and Colleen Camp as Julie's parents.
"Why can't you just punish me like normal parents do?"
"Bad karma, dear."

Colleen Camp was one of the queens of 1980's B movies.
like, fer sure
I have to rewatch this movie. I saw it while I still lived in Costa Rica and did not get the movie at all.
