I have to ask what one day of prison teaches you. Granted, I've never been around a prison, much less inside of one...
(By the way. I find it amusing that the yahoo site title for this link is "omg!")
Yahoo Says So
My partner is a social worker in the justice system. He interviews arrestees in order to determine if they have alcohol or drug addiction problems or mental illness that is behind their problems with the law. If he decides that a particular treatment program or hospitalization might help the person get out of the legal system he makes that recommendation to the judge. I think this is a new and positive trend in the criminal justice system.
My opinion in cases like Linday's is that one day of jail will teach her nothing. But then again what would 30 days in jail teach her? 30 times nothing. Jail doesn't effect these kinds of problems. And sooner or later she'd just end up back on the street, drunk/high behind the wheel.
The sentence she got, not just one day in jail, but one day in jail, 10 days of community service, complete a drug treatment program, 36 months probation, an 18-month alcohol education program, hundreds of dollars in fines and a three-day county coroner program in which she'll visit a morgue and talk to victims of drunken drivers has a better chance of resolving societies cutest little problem than 30 days in jail would.
Of course neither course is a guarantee. But I like the idea of helping people with illnesses get better rather than just punishing them. Don't get me wrong. I think consequences are an important element here. But I think the judge struck a fair balance.
Well, that's true. Good points, I didn't even really think of all that.

Excellent post, art.
But I'd still like to beat her senseless - except I think she already is, poor thing.
Actually, who I'd REALLY like to beat is 'The Mother'.

Somtimes prison is the only thing that keeps a person with a drug addiction from killing themselves or someone else. It may not teach her anything, but she deserves punishment too. Let the rehab come later. And sometimes people need to hit rock bottom before they're ready to make changes.
Lindsay Lohen is a very talented actress, but I'm afraid she'll be dead by this time next year. I could care less about Paris or Spears, but I hope Lindsay cleans up her life.

But WINK, what about Nicole?!?!?
You can't forget Ms. Ritchie.
She started HER sentence today.
Do we need a dedicated cable channel to keep up with all this?

Who can keep up with this - and more importantly, who would want to?!?
The circus continues.

Wow. This is gonna be like a cheap day-camp for her.

I look at my post which asks 'who would want to keep up with it all,' which seems hypocritical since I posted a link to an article about it. BUT, it was one of SEVEN featured news items on the Yahoo homepage. It's to a point that you can't avoid it even if you want to!

I'm sure it was 82 of the hardest and most traumatic minutes of Ms. Ritchie's young life...... and I'm sure she's learned her lesson.
MARGO!!!!!!
Yea!!!!!!!
Missed You!
I was about to say something similar to Margo.
Thanks for stealing my thunder, bitch!
So this means Lindsay will actually serve what? A few seconds? Do they just close the door and hide around the corner for a couple of minutes?
By the way, it is nice to see you back, Margo.
I'll cut you bitch.
Margo likes ME more!
Brown-nosing diva-hugging crusty booger of a crack whore's vagina!
*runs away*
Lindsay learned how to make a shiv.
Don't make me make her cut you.
"You can't forget Ms. Ritchie.
She started HER sentence today."
And ended today.
"Do we need a dedicated cable channel to keep up with all this?"
Yes. We can call it DUI Daughters. Britney, Paris, Lindsay, and Nicole 24/7.
In other news, Paris is writing a book.

Thank GOD!! Broadway is in such need of a real talent, never mind troublemaker, like Linds!
(A little birdie says an offer is already out for Linds to come to the Great White Way - which not only goes to show you that there are second AND third acts in American Life but that Broadway is so down-in-the-mouth, they would hire Charles Manson for Billy Flynn, if it brought in the crowds)

It is my understandin that all charges were misdemeanors. Her court supervision is for a significant period of time. The sentence seems reasonable to me.
