Lions Hire Rod Marinelli As New Coach

he probably heard JoePa say DON'T TAKE THE JOB.....RUN.....
and another new coach for the hapless Lions......Mybe someday they will actually have a good team

ALLEN PARK, Mich. - Until this week, few people had probably heard of Rod Marinelli outside of Tampa Bay. The new Detroit Lions coach will have a chance to make a name for himself with his no-nonsense approach, piercing eyes and firm tone.

"I've got confidence. I don't need anybody else to instill that confidence in me," the Vietnam veteran said Thursday. "I feel very strong. I know who I am."

Marinelli already reminds Lions president Matt Millen of some of the game's coaching greats when he speaks.

"I hear (Joe) Paterno. I hear Bo Schembechler come out of him. There's a lot of John Madden," Millen said.

Sorry Elphy -- but this thread is doomed to die -- nobody here cares about soccer and even worse what is going in Detroit -- but me -- OK to PM me if you want.

I laughed when I saw this. I'm from MI and thought... People actually care about the Lions? Maybe someday they'll have a good team, but I don't think it will be with this guy! Sad to say, but now I've voiced it!

tommyboy.......the post is about football, not soccer.

barenaked, I've loved the Lions since I lived there....and always will. One day they may have a decent team......but their track record sucks.

For Joey to go from the #2 college team BCS his senior year to the Lions upsets any of us that went to U. Oregon

Well, Joey's seen better days. The fans are up in arms and he gets booed coming on the field. That's gotta be tough when the home crowd can't be pleased. But mostly they blame Millen. He's Gotta Go NOW!

The problem with the Lions is they still have crappy upper management and will need to bring in good players, neither of which can be fixed in a year or two with a new coach. They need to trade a couple of those receivers for offensive linemen and defensive skill players and then find a running back, things that probably won't work for a couple more years either, at which point they'll be starting over with another new quarterback.

The Lions suckage is a vicious circle.

I'm around Cleveland -- I know a franchise doomed to the endless circle of failure from miles away!

(Luckily I've never been a Browns fan, otherwise I'd have had my head in the oven years ago.)

I think Marinelli might be able to do it - we haven't had his attitude around here in a while and if he meshes with Millen then that's all the better.

What's more goofy in Detroit is that the Tigers and Red Wings have the same owner, yet the Wings have been consistantly great for years while the Tigers have consistantly sucked.
