Anyone read this??
Anyone as disturbed and scared as I was??
I thought Bella Karoli was cool....apparently not..
I have......On my gymnastics message board we try to keep in mind that the book is very biased.....while perhaps true, it is biased......as for Bela, I don't really care for him that much. He just had Nadia and Mary Lou and everyone thought that whatever he said and did was as good as gold......it isn't......
They made a movie of it too but it wasn't nearly as good as the book. I thought the book was really good, a bit...over the top, at times and it probably blew some things out of proportion. It's important to keep in mind that not everything is horrible and not everyone's story is a bad one. Still, Ive read that book a few times.
I saw the movie.....it basically took a lot of the common things that were happening in the book and put them into to the life of a gymnasts at the time she enters a new gym. Vanessa Alter did the gymnastics stunt work too. By the way, Vanessa is currently on the show Starting Over.....I'm sure her story is one you could add to the second installment of LGPB.

Oh wow, that book brings back memories. I read it years ago when it first came out. I was heavy into competitive gymnastics and figure skating when I was younger... when it all started to get really bad and it wasn't fun anymore, I quit. I think a year later, that book came out and my aunt bought it for me to read. Insane.... and a little alarming to read so many things that hit SO close to home.
Unfortunately, the book didn't blow things out of proportion.....
