Just got my tickets....is anyone else going?
NEW YORK -- Organizers today announced seventeen of the headliners who will perform at the U.S. leg of the 7-continent, 24-hour Live Earth concerts on 7/7/07. The concert will be held at Giants Stadium in New Jersey, Live Earth founder and executive producer Kevin Wall said. Tickets for the show go on sale Monday, April 16 at 10 a.m. EDT. "Capping Live Earth with a blockbuster show like this will ensure we meet our challenge of building a mass audience to combat global warming," Wall said. "Live Earth will be a monumental event both in terms of entertainment and in turning the tide against global warming."
The global concert on 7/7/07 will begin in Sydney and continue across all 7 continents, concluding with the U.S. show.
"We hope the energy created by Live Earth will jump start a massive public education effort," Live Earth co-chair vice president Al Gore said. "Live Earth will help us reach a tipping point that's needed to move corporations and governments to take decisive action to solve the climate crisis."
The U.S. show will feature live on stage:
Kanye West
AFI
Kelly Clarkson
Akon
KT Tunstall
Alicia Keys
Ludacris
Bon Jovi
Sheryl Crow
Melissa Etheridge
Dave Matthews Band
Rihanna
Fall Out Boy
Roger Waters
Smashing Pumpkins
John Mayer
The Police
eh, two acts i'd consider paying to see. one i'll wait to see at a nascar event so i get a race too and the other i'll wait for until the 30th anniversary tour of the wall.
I think it's a pretty amazing line-up, but I tend to avoid the stadium events. Still, I hope you have fun Lorelai, and I love the av.
Not to be negative, but does anyone really think this will "jump start" public education on the matter? The only thing it may jump start is some overtime for all the custodians who will need to clean up all the unrecycled cups and cans from the crowd.
Still, kudos for the cause!
shh, tazber, a portion of the proceeds will go to buy enough carbon offsets to more than cover the trash generated, non-green power consumed and the damage to the atmosphere from the private planes to fly these acts in. yep, if you can afford 'em those carbon offsets make it so ya really don't have to do anything to combat global warming but spend some money. those of you without the cash to buy carbon offsets? you better get ready to change your f*cking consuming, earth exploiting ways, bitches!
