LiveJournal question (particularly for Mac users)
LiveJournal question (particularly for Mac users)#1
Posted: 5/23/08 at 11:36pm
Is anyone else currently having problems accessing LJ? I've been having trouble with it all day; either it won't load at all, or if it does, it's remarkably slow, and ends up all distorted. Several of my friends who are PC users had trouble earlier, but say it's working fine for them now. I'm know they've been making some changes to the site lately, and I'm concerned that maybe they're problematic for Macs.
ETA: I've tried quitting and restarting Safari, then I reset it, emptied my cache, cleared my cookies, and tried Firefox, as well. Every other website I've visited has been totally normal, and iChat is working just fine, so I don't think it's my internet connection.

Posted: 5/23/08 at 11:41pmI use Macs and have no trouble accessing or logging in. Maybe it's your server?

Posted: 5/23/08 at 11:45pmMaybe. But everything else with my internet is working normally.

Posted: 5/23/08 at 11:47pmMac, Firefox, no problem.

Posted: 5/23/08 at 11:51pmOkay, so since it doesn't seem to be a Mac thing, does anyone have suggestions other than what I've already tried. I just re-started my computer and that didn't help either. This is getting ridiculous.

Are you on Safari? Try resetting, not just restarting. Clear out the cookies.
I dunno, but that would be my next step.
Oh, I see you've done that.

Ooh, you edited.

Posted: 5/24/08 at 12:00amDo you have an unpaid account? I've heard that sometimes they fix stuff for their paid customers first. Maybe they're still working on your account. ::shrugs::
re: LiveJournal question (particularly for Mac users)#9
Posted: 5/24/08 at 12:00amYeah, it's unpaid. That would make sense, good point.

Mine is unpaid.
Have you been updating the software?
Updating Mac OS X applications?
Go to Safari help, Mac help etc. How recently have you repaired permissions?

I haven't touched anything, no, and I update every time it alerts me to.
I'll try Safari help, though I don't know what it will be able to tell me.

Yeah, your LJ account is likely on a different server than mine. They may be having a problem with that server, or maybe they are doing routine maintenance there, so I'd wait and keep trying.
If it's still a problem tomorrow, try verifying your discs to see if you need to repair permissions.
Other that that, I dunno
re: LiveJournal question (particularly for Mac users)#13
Posted: 5/24/08 at 1:22amI'm able to log into my account from another computer, but it's not just the login that's the issue; loading the domain period gives me trouble. I'm so confused.

Try going to the help viewer, Mac Help
Type in "verify permissions"
there's a part "about testing and repairing a disc" click that
it will say "open this for me" and there will be a "disc utility" button
click that button
it will take you to a pop up window that says "Disc Utility"
Click one of the icons, like Mac Hard drive
then:
Verify disc permissions
click "Verify..." and it will go through a long sequence, then tell you if you need to repair by clicking the button:
"Repair disc permissions"
If this is not displaying as I have typed it above, or at least something similar, you may have a different version. In which case I'd call the mac helpline.

I just did the disk utility thing (thanks for walking me through that), but it didn't help. I guess I'll give them a call tomorrow, and if they can't help me over the phone, I'll take it into the store. This is so weird.
