Some people found it kind of confusing and hard to follow as the sets were even timed to move in tandem with the action so as not to interrupt the flow. I worked on the LA production at the Shubert - and I was constantly hearing remarks like "I have never seen anything like that before".

Posted: 12/6/06 at 5:23pmPerhaps, time has played tricks on my memory, but I could almost swear I remember Liz Smith giving her usual fawning praise to Dreamgirls and dedicating a couple of paragraphs in her column to Jennifer Holliday's performance, anointing her an overnight star. I definitely remember her using the phrase "A Star Is Born!" in there somewhere. She also praised Cleavant Derricks if I remember correctly. But, hey, perhaps I'm little off (though I doubt it). It was one column 25 years ago and she's 100 years old now -- why should I remember it correctly, if she doesn't?
