Posted: 8/27/09 at 2:55pmI've just recalled that the issue had to do with Barbra Streisand and 20th Century-Fox records and the soundtrack of Hello, Dolly!. Something to do with how she took them to the cleaners on the soundtrack record end of the deal. Whatever, Fox was not willing to go there again, and just ended any possibility by having Lynn Carey's voice replaced on the "soundtrack" album.

It's funny how Fox Records weren't "able" or "willing" to get a virtually unknown artist like Lynn Carey for the soundtrack because of label conflict yet they managed to get The Sandpipers and The Strawberry Alarm Clock from Uni Records and A&M Records.

She wasn't in a position to do it, and I think the general feeling was they could always eliminate the other songs from the film or album, but not hers. It was right on the heels of whatever their issue was with Streisand. She was a victim of poor timing. It was such a long time ago, I wish I could recall the specifics. The fact that I was even at the party was a complete fluke. It seemed to me, at the time, that Gurian had family money. He lived in a pretty nice place, certainly not from his Beyond the Valley of the Dolls money!
