Someone who got a FULL Theatre scholarship DROPPED the major in order to pursue their Engineering interest.
And my roommate is an expert in the Sound field of technicial theatre, and also does lighting, and he now is switching his major to Political Science.
LOSERS!
hey, whatever floats his boat...that just leaves more room in the job pool for me :)

A degree in engineering is a great degree! Your roommate can always go back and explore his/her theater interests... but that degree will get him/her a job right out of school.

I've heard this said a few times on this board, and that is that you shouldn't go to college to study theatre unless you can't imagine yourself ever doing anything else.

what really matters when it comes to choosing a major, is what you are interested in. i know many people that had a scholarship in one field and declined in order to major in a field that suits them better.
Don't know about my roommate, but I know the person with the full scholarship loves theatre, but just kept hearing all negative things about getting gigs and making it, and he decided to quit now.
some people just need the security of a steady job.

Exactly. This is why I intend to pursue a minor in Journalism or Creative Writing at college.

Creative Writing prepares you for a steady job? In what universe?

A minor in writing can be a fall back plan for a person pursuing a career in theatre.
