Wow. So sad to hear all those places are closing. All the local businesses are being snuffed out. I will try the Russian Tea Room next time I'm in the city. Here in Denver the same type of "progress" is taking hold, albeit a tad slower, but not by much. A slew of locally owned and maintained shoppes, bars and restaurants have been bulldozed to make way for massive mixed retail townhome/condo developments.
I saw Thoroughly Modern Millie at the Marquis. I was in high school, so I didn't have any kind of "taste level" really lol I was just so excited to see Sutton Foster, but looking back on it, it was truly an ugly theatre. Just a big 1970/80s looking concrete box. Was the house lighting fluorescent when Millie was running ? I don't really remember.

Posted: 4/10/14 at 3:08pmNo... they fixed the house lighting years ago. I'm not sure if it was complaints from audiences, or they simply realized that what they initially installed was hideous. It took a few shows - perhaps a year, I don't remember - but, for several years now the house lights dim appropriately.
