I have never seen it
Unsolicited, a friend sent me an email today about how sucky the show is becoming Go figure.
I enjoyed NIGHT STALKER tonight. Though it's not up to the memory of the Darren McG. original (you have to be on the other side of ... 40 {!} to remember that!) it's well done. You gotta love those JAWS and PSYCHO images in the first 20 minutes.

How come I remember it so vividly at my young age?
I really hope the show doesn't turn into some kind of "Truman Show" ripoff. Or that it's all a dream. That will really piss me off...

I am a TV junky, but the first two episodes were so wierd that I may just watch baseball on Tuesday.
I haven't read this whole thread because I don't watch Lost, but I'm here to offer a suggestion to those of you who are disappointed with it:
Watch Veronica Mars instead! It's on at the same time and it's an absolutely amazing show that really deserves some more recognition.
Any thoughts on last night's episode?
I watched Martha's APPRENTICE, now moved opposite it, and didn't tape LOST, so if anyone wants to tell us what went down, with SPOILERS screaming at the top, please do. I found myself indifferent to it, and preferred Martha's teams trying to sell wedding cakes.
Wasn't yesterday's show supposed to be the "one to watch"? Because it didn't answer s**t. Again.
***SPOILAGE BELOW***
Jin, Michael and Sawyer were captured by a shirtless black dude on that island they swam to and met Michelle Rodriguez, who was apparently in the back of the plane (the part that broke off and landed God knows where). So apparently, those people did survive and are in their own little "Lost" parallel universe.
Meanwhile, in the bunker thingy, the gang from last week (now joined by Hurley and Sayid) are trying to figure out how to stop the island from blowing up or releasing a virus or something; I dunno, I wasn't really listening. Jack and Locke discovered a filmstrip from the 1970s for Phase 3 of whatever the hell's going on in there.
It was Locke's turn for flashbacks and he struggled more with his dirtbag father's issues and hooked up with Katey Sagal.
No Charlie in this episode, which made me sad.
Oh, and Jin speaks Engligh now.
SPOILERS
Correction - Jin doesn't speak english until next week, according to the previews (because he only said one english word in this episode: "others!")
I think some clarifacation must be made. Desmond is saddled with "pushing the button" every 108 minutes, or god-knows what will happen (anihilation?). A misfired bullet damages the computer, making it impossible to "push the button" hense, the need for Sayid to come down and join the merrymakers, possibly fixing the computer. The film watched by Jack and Locke explains that the project is funded by a multimillionaire, which required the building of the underground fortress on the island because of the island's intense electromagnetic forces. The Dharma Project studies many things - from metaphysical to scientific. No sign of Walt yet. Michelle Rodriguez is thrown into the pit with Sawyer, Jin and Michael, pretending to be one of them (another survivor of the flight)...but in actuality, she is working with The Others, because she punches Sawyer, grabs his gun away from him and is hoisted back up on land to explain what she learned to the "shirtless black man"(LOL)...
Locke's past reviews his loss at having no father figure in his life and his learning to deal with the intense feelings of anger, by attending anger management classes where he meets Katey Sagal's character and falls in love. She helps him past his anger by convinceing him to take a "leap of faith" - a phrase repeated by Locke to Jack in the final moments of the episode, wherein a now fixed Computer requires that the "button be pushed"...
Whew!
Have I left anything out?
I'm with you Auggie. The show has been treading water since the middle of last season. The end of the season two opener was simply ridiculous. Continuity was chucked out the window. New flashbacks are introduced to precariously fill gaping holes in the plot like dumping a pail of sand in the Grand Canyon. I believe that the creative staff simply ran out of ideas once they got past the premise and are simply improvising to keep up interest. I honestly cannot understand how it won the Emmy. The show is a mess. It once was an interesting mess, but now it is just mildly humuorous and mostly annoying.
O.K. why did this show win Best Drama over West Wing?
The show moves slowly and is more interested in telling the backstory of the characters than much else, that is what I love about it. Every flashback and action of each character means much to the story they are telling, which to me at least, has little to do with such things as the hatch and The Others. The more slow and interior it is the, more I like it. It was about half way through last season, when the "we are on an island" hoopla slowed down that the show hit its stride, for me.
I understand it is not for everyone though, and sometimes I think they fail to express the points they are attempting.
I have only seen one episode of West Wing, and I loved it. I do think this show definately had what it takes to compete though.
Honestly, last night's episode did answer questions. It did not answer everything completely, but we all know more now. (This explains the polar bears!) It was also very exciting with all the Dharma Initiative talk...and the new direction the show is taking.
There are more questions...sure, but what's the fun in watching the show if everything is explained to us RIGHT NOW?
However, I'm less interested in flashbacks lately. They just bore me. I just do something else whenever they're on.
I find the flashbacks the most intriguing part, if it is a character I actually care about. I think that is a plus for the show though, that people find connections to very different parts.

I especially love that Locke's flashback-hair made him look like comedian Colin Mochrie!
Have any of you seen this site? It's the "company" that started the Dharma Initiative. The people at ABC are having WAY too much fun with this.
thehansofoundation.org
I wonder if one day they'll mention some login id and password on the show...and then we'll actually get to access those pages on the site.
Heh. Like I said, I wasn't really paying attention. And really, I was just trying to be a smartass.
Glad you guys were on top of it, though!

mominator?
because last season it was better than The West Wing (which despite having lost some it's punch with the unfortunate departure of Mr. Sorkin is still one of the best shows on TV).
now about last night's show, that was Katey Segal playing locke's love interest right?
She is always lovely to see.
I was glad to see Katey- she was so natural - so unlike many of the over-the-top characters she has played. That takes versatility. Ya'll do know that she was a harlette at one time, right?
"My main problem with the show is I increasingly get the feeling that they're just making it up as they go along and that we'll never find out the answer to anything because there is no answer to be found."
I AGREE!!! And I used to love this show.
I think a lot of you are missing the point - the show needs to sustain itself over 25 episodes a year -- they can't suddenly give us all the answers -- that would be the end of the series! Think about what we knew three episodes ago vs. now, and you'll see that they've actually given us quite a bit already this season. I would actually get really annoyed if they gave us all the answers now - I for one ENJOY the slow ride, and I think that the payoff will in the end be HUGE.
I do agree, however, that the flashbacks have been somewhat week this season so far, especially Michael's last week.
I disagree. It is still very entertaining to me and over 20 million others..
'Lost' Finds Another ABC Win Wednesday
(Thursday, October 06 08:34 AM)
Lost" drew the night's biggest audience at 9 p.m., coming in at 13.2/20.
in the first episode of the season, didn't Walt appear and say something about a "button"?
joeyjoe - I read on a Lost board that what he said was "don't push the button" but only if you played it back a certain way...
oh well.. they pushed the button and nothing happened...
