I flew from Berlin to Basel on EasyJet a few weeks ago, and had a nice experience -- and for only $35!

and mothers, that's why in the future all of our European trips will be built around these airlines as transportation, rather than using trains

But dear god, DON'T fly RyanAir.

They are TERRIBLE. The worst customer service I've ever had. A 36 hour delay and not even an APOLOGY. PLUS, they REFUSED to pay for my accomodation.

EasyJet, WizzAir and CentralWings all will cover accomodation costs, should something go wrong...RyanAir will NOT.

thank you doxie, these are the things I don't know.......

did you ever fly Malev? We're flying it from Krakow to Budapest.....somehow I have visions of babushkas across the aisle from us, with their goats.......

I can vouch for Easyjet. Great rates from Luton Airport (London) to other European cities. I used to love flying DebonAir when they were in biz--the sassy pink and purple color scheme was so gay!

Easyjet and Skyeurope are supposed to both be good.....

They are, Elphie. Never flew Malev...

WizzAir is the one to worry about, as 98% of the customers are Polish...

Easyjet got me from Barcelona to Paris, lickety-split, and friendly too!

Paradox - you're the first person I've heard to speak badly about Ryanair. Has anyone else had a bad experience with them? Now I'm worried about the trips I have planned for this summer.

I've flown RyanAir and had absolutely no trouble. I will definitely use them again.

BMI is a WONDERFUL airline. It's great in every way, fly it if you can! It's only a bit more expensive than the others, if i'm not mistaken.

I for one, LOVE train travel... So, in Europe, I would much rather travel by train than by low-cost-airline...

the problem caroline, is when the ONLY company in the US that sells Eurail passes to travel agents will not accept the routes you want, but rather wants you to take three trains to your destination, thus shaving off time in the places you want to be.

There is a nonestop train from Vienna to Krakow, yet this stupid company would only get me Vienna to Katowice (hour layover in the dark) next train to Krakow.......even though I have both Austrian and Polish Rail sites up that said I could do what I wanted.
I love European train travel too, but I am tired of them pulling this crap. So....next time, flights.

Elphaba, you be careful in Katowice, especially at night.

It's the crime capital of Poland, and the train station is the WORST. As long as you make smart decisions I'm sure you'll be fine though...But don't trust ANYONE, whatever you do!

And I have heard MANY terrible things about RyanAir. Let's just say, I was one of the lucky ones, as I only had a 36 hour delay. There were over 1000 people delayed the day I was, and some people were delayed up to a week...
